Windows 2000

I was given a computer with Windows 2000, and other than an ethernet card problem, it seems to function fine. I don't have the complete specs for the computer, but I think its a P4 (1.8 maybe) 1 Gb ram, 80 Gb hard drive...something like that. I don't really need this computer, but since the operating system is old....what can it be used for? Even if I give it to a group in need, what can they use it for? I hate to put a new ethernet card in it if the computer is already obsolete. Comments?

Not a bad system for just email, documents and surfing the web.
I have donated a few machines to an orphanage in Mexico, they use them in classrooms.
I am sure you can find some good use for it, I have one similar to that in our guest room for when we get visitors.
They can check their email and go on the internet, nothing fancy but it is a nice addition.

Also would be an okay system for any app's that are not too CPU intense.

I actually ran PE1 on a similiar hardware profile, but configed with XP SP2.
It worked, but it wasn't pretty.

Also, if your gonna pass on to a friend, or family, do yourself a favor, a straight vanilla ethernet card can be had for around $20 bucks.

Put the card in, or the PC is usless for mail and the web...

.....or if you are wireless at home a wireless USB stub (for example the Netgear WG111TNA) is easier to fit than a card. (There are cheaper alternative brands, I quote that one solely as an example).
