Well I was about to order the seagate then iread the reviews and someone said I would need to order the installation software.

So coming back to ask you guys ...

Apparently on newegg.com if it has OEM than it doesn't come with software adn you have to order that separate. They said a lot of people already have the software so they sell it as a retail bundle (with software) and without software.

So that is normal I assume with you guys that have done this before.

The 120.00 is without software.

I am calling seagate now to figure out what I need to do to order.

Oh and I found a friend that will install it for free for me :-D

I am no great 'techie' so I may be confused!! (Easily done :-D ) but I don't understand this "software" issue.

I have bought a few discs (OEM) and when installed, connected up and formatted there is nothing to do. All have worked perfectly.

that is what Seagate said also.

Apparently if someone is building a computer they might need some kind of software for the system to recognize the hard drive. Especially if this is going to be the main c drive.

Most commercial drives will come with drive cables, some software to allow you to partition the drive, in case you have a really old bios. And finally some software to migrate the data from your old drive to the new drive if you are going to replace say the system drive.

An OEM drive is a bare drive. No other goodies, not even a box. They save a lot when they do it that way.
