Strange activity..

Postby BuddyB » Mon Mar 13, 2017 1:32 pm

..and yes, it's me again. I use Bitmeter to check activity from my computer. Once upon a time I had a problem with Comcast, going over the limit of data usage. I got that taken care of, but I'm seeing what appears to be a lot of usage, according to Bitmeter..and it makes me nervous. I downloaded and installed '"TCP-UDP View." I'm not sure I like what I'm seeing and would like to stop. I'm including a screen shot to see if anyone can make anything of it and maybe has an idea about what I need to do.

Well, in the process of trying to fix this I hit something, and I don't know what, and my original desktop went away and now what I have is something that resembles Windows 8 with some of the Icons out of Win Startup, and I haven't figured how to get back to the original Desktop though I know it's still there. Good grief, my paranoia is really causing me issues.

Thanks Peru, tried it three times and it wouldn't change. Did not give a specific error, but just wouldn't make any changes. The only alternative it would suggest is Advanced Restore. I may give that a shot. My computer functions normally; just can't get back to the normal start screen.

Can you try pressing the start key the one that looks like a window with 4 boxes?

Are you using an application that mimics the old start menu system?

Looks like you may have accidently enabled the Start Screen rather than the Start Menu.

Try this. Open the Settings menu (click on the gear shaped icon on the lower left of your screen). Then select Personalization. Click on Start in the list on the left. You should be able to see a toggle on the lower right that says "Use Start full screen". If it is on, turn it off.

Another possibility is that you somehow enabled tablet mode. See this article.

Sidd, when I hit the start key it takes me from here to the window I posted. Bob, tablet mode is off, did as you asked in the first post, clicked start, still the same. I know the original Win screen is still there; can see it in Win Explorer with all the folders and files that are saved. This is driving me nuts. I saw for a split second the original Win screen then it went back to what you see above.

It sure looks like you are in the full screen Start Screen. What happens if you hit "esc" or right click on the start button and select Desktop?

I owe everyone here an apology! And, Bob especially you. Tablet mode was turned on. Earlier I went into the system and it indicated it was off. After all the issues I finally went to MS. The first rep, I feel, came close to having me destroy my system, finally having me reboot in Safe mode; not telling me that there would be an issue rebooting back into normal mode. Once upon a time when rebooting from Safe mode it would go back into normal mode naturally, but not anymore. I finally went back to MS, got a girl who knew what she was doing. She said to go into Notifications, Tablet mode was turned on there; turned it off and voila the issue was resolved. I want to thank everyone here for your patience with me, trying to help any way possible. It, and you mean a lot to me. Thanks much.

A good rule of thumb: Never question Bob! He calls it right pretty much 100% of the time.
