Well I'm scratching my head..

Postby BuddyB » Sun Jan 08, 2017 11:45 am

..but then what else is new? I have a Sony turntable plugged into a USB port, but it won't play on the computer. I've normally have the system set to "What you hear," but the the computer doesn't hear the turntable. I changed the audio setting to USB, but still don't hear anything. I even changed USB ports to see if that would work..NADA. I've searched for the device, but don't see it on the computer. Now it worked fine with Win7/64 and the old VIA sound card, but lots of things changed with Win10/64 and the new Creative AR5. It could be something simple, but at this point I haven't discovered it. Any ideas? Thanks.

What model? PS-LX300USB?

For that model a CD was included which had Sound Forge. Did you try that program?

IF that doesn't work then try to search for a driver that works with Win 10.

The Sony USB turntables use the USB Audio Codec built into Windows. You shouldn't need a separate driver. You probably just need to set it up.

For Windows 10, plug in the turntable and open the Sound Control Panel app. Select the Recording Devices TAB. Right click the window and ensure that Show disabled devices and Show disconnected devices are checked. There should be a USB AUDIO CODEC entry. Set it as the default device. Enable it if necessary. Now, select USB Audio Codec and select Properties. Then select the Advanced TAB. Select one of the 2 channel options, e.g. 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) or 2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality), from the Default Format drop-down list. Finally, select OK. Also, make sure the volume level is set to high.

It should work. If it doesn't, open the device manager and let us know if any of the entries indicate a problem.

Been in there some, but your instructions are so precise I probably missed something. Going back in; will let you know. Thanks much.

Also check for a switch on the turntable, should be a switch for Phono and Line Level, make sure it is on Line Level. If there is no switch you may need a preamp. I have an Audio Technica AT-LT120 USB, great turntable and it has the phono/line switch.

I've also had a few other things cause problems at times but can't remember exactly what they were at the moment, very probably what Bob has posted above.

It wouldn't hurt to try a different USB cable.

I still think it might be the phono switch or that there is no preamp at all.

Well, for starters, you're on the wrong tab. You are on the Playback tab instead of the Recording tab. The USB Audio codec needs to be set up as a recording device, not a playback device. Second, you shouldn't have the USB Audio Codec as a Playback device. Something fishy is going on there. If you are set up properly on the recording tab, this is probably interfering. You need to get that resolved.

This is the setup at the moment. Something that strikes me as peculiar it has a 2- in front of it. That seems to indicate something is not right. I have the switch in the back set to "Phono," and at the moment cannot think of anything else.

Hi Buddy, Switch should be set to "Line". Is this an ION turntable? I thought you said it was Sony. What is below "What U Hear" in the Recording Device list?

I'll switch..no this is not an ION it is Sony. I do have an ION setup for audio/video input. Do you think switching USB ports would be of any consequence?

Might want to disconnect everything and then just connect the turntable. There are also settings in the properties, you may need to turn on "Listen to this Device". Funny that it worked previously. Did it work on the same computer only it was upgraded to Windows 10?

Also, have you checked the Sony website to see if the turntable is compatible with Windows 10?
