The hardware and software that you see in my signature function flawlessly together.

In addition to the software in my signature:
1. NIS Identity Safe also functions flawlessly -- the Local not the Cloud version
2. Rollback RX works perfectly
3. My antique version of SmartSyncPro speedily makes backups of the external HDDs that contain my data
4. Windows Media Center is present and plays videos breathtakingly
5. My aged version of CyberLink Hi-Def Suite does everything I need it to do
6. The $50 scanner that I bought in the Philippines can do more than I need it to
7. With my Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball, I am able to edit images in Photoshop effortlessly
8. My Portrait Professional Studio 10 software works perfrectly
9. Ditto for proDAD and SureThing

Last but not least, I have four updated mirror images of my C drive, created with Drive Cloner RX, stored in as many different locations.

What's not to like?

I was going to write a long post about this but gave up. Changing something for the sake of changing something is not a good reason for changing. If it works for you then it works.

Just be aware that Windows 7 has a limited lifespan and support ends in about 3½ years from now. New hardware will not be supported on older operating systems so as and when you replace your PC it is likely that it won't support fully Windows 7. I'm also aware that the PC (especially the desktop) is fast becoming a dinosaur so your future computing devices may well be an entirely different platform.

Windows 10 no longer supports Virtual XP.

Support for Virtual XP stopped two years ago with support for the real XP. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/Windows ... xp-support). It's probably time to update your accounting software.

When I purchase a new PC and I find it works well with its native installed software, then I proceed to instill any additional programs that l use regularly.

If the machine continues to function well, then my next step is to create clones of my new C Drive with Drive Cloner RX.

Provided the two new machines contain identical hardware and software (they always do), I've always been successful at immediately using one of the clones in the second machine so that -- Voila! -- I've got a second machine ready to go in the event of a hardware or software crash on the first.

Finally, because they are still available, I purchase extra motherboards and CPUs at the same time I buy the new PCs, plus a power supply.

Re PC production, the demand from the business world is still strong, the consumer world not so much, where people tend to prefer handheld phones and tablets.

When I travel, I bring all 3 types of devices, with the PC in its original shipping box. Been doing that for decades to the Philippines and return, 5 trips per year or more and haven't experienced even any issues.

In summary, I'm not intending to replace either of my Win7 editing/internet machines anytime soon, including in 3.5 more years. When MS support for OS7 ends, that's the time I will purchase a machine to use mostly for the internet. The existing two machines will be removed from the internet and used exclusively for assembling creations.

I agree. XP is relatively ancient technology. From back in the days when people were still concerned about the "the Y2K Apocalypse" ... a long, long time ago.

The Y2K issue brought us Win ME and Win 2000, not XP :)

You're right. I was just trying to point out just how long ago XP came out.

If XP were a person, he'd be old enough to get a driver's license.

XP will be 15 years old the end of October :)

Muvipix should have a birthday party for XP !!

The data in this graphic is as of March 2015. That percentage translates into 250 million XP machines worldwide.

Who still depends on XP?

7 places you’ll be surprised to learn are still using Windows XP

1. US Navy
2. US Army
3. UK's NHS
4. 95% of ATMS worldwide
5. US electrical grid
6. US water system
7. UK's Banking System

Those statistics actually frighten me more than impress me. Our military is using operating systems that are nearly two decades old?

I hope they're not still storing important data to their Zip drive tapes.

Hey, I don't see Windows 98 on there anywhere. That is not an accurate chart !!

That one being over a year old now, here is a current one as of June 2016, Much more realistic IMO ...

Lots of number - depends on who you ask and how they are measuring it. From left to right - Statcounter, Steam hardware survey, US government analytics (single day), US government analytics (7 days), w3 schools statistics. I'm only counting the versions listed here - there are others including some Windows 98 for Chuck but I've ignored them.
Code: Select all
Statcounter Steam       US Gov      Us Gov week     w3 schools
        May 16      June 16     17/07/16    to 17/07/16     May 16
10      23.7%       46.6%       44.4%       30.1%           28.7%
8/8.1   15.4%       12.6%       11.00%      8.4%            17.3%
7       51.3%       38.7%       39.1%       57.4%           51.7%
Vista   1.7%        0.3%        2.6%        1.7%            0.4%
XP      7.9%        1.8%        2.9%        2.5%            2.0%

Statcounter has XP at 4 times everyone else but might be more "global". Steam is the gaming crowd where DirectX 12 means something. US Government is largely US based - Yesterday's data is probably home users, weekly gives home + business. W3 Schools is probably largely developers. Most of these count web views - so machines not used for web browsing will not show up.

As to the "users" of XP - it's not quite as bad as it sounds. (Actually it sounds like click-bait)
1. US Navy - Purchased extended support
2. US Army - Purchased extended support
3. UK's NHS - Purchased extended support (though this may have lapsed)
4. 95% of ATMS worldwide - Will probably be using XP embedded - which (dependent on version) is supported to 2019
5. US electrical grid - links to a recent "forbes" article. Which was actually the wall street journal article dated March 2014.
6. US water system - Article states "last year" (so 2014) "more than 75%..." Probably very different (I hope) today. Or they might have purchased support.
7. UK's Banking System - Not listed in the article.
Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black

According to a presidential candidate who gave a 60-minute speech last night, various federal agencies are still using floppy disks -- including nuclear missile launch sites!
