The VLC Media Player is working great for me, thanks again Chuck for that lead. The "sparkles" in the video along with the intermittent soundtrack tells me that my camera innards were probably not as clean as they needed to be, even on Day 3 of the trip - correct? Hard way to learn that lesson.

VLC Media Player is very good, I use it myself. VLC is fairly unique in that the codecs it supports are built into the player -- it doesn't rely on the codecs installed on your computer. You could have a missing or corrupted codec on your computer and it will still play the video normally. In my experience, VLC has been more robust and snappier than Windows Media Player.

+1 for VLC. It's the default media player on both my Mac and my PC!
