We have been with a local company for a long time, DSL and they use ATT lines. In the past year or more our speeds have gone down to the point that is very frustrating. Got a new modem, a new router, they checked their end and ATT changed stuff out at the sub station nearby. I think there are more people added onto our loop and by the time it gets to us the speed isn't there. The speed goes down especially when school gets out, and I tested that no other tablet or laptops were on in the house. My computer is directly into the modem where the other devices are wireless through the router. Ready to change to the cable company for faster speeds. Problem is that I have a lot of accounts, 100+ tied to my email account with the local company. And have many friends around the world that have my email account, plus a ton of folders in my email that I would like to keep. So before changing: 1. My tech guy suggested going to a paid email account not tied to a provider. He suggested one and does anyone have their recommendations? 2. How do I save all of my folders of info in the email account? 3. What is the easiest way to switch and any tips? 4. I realize I would have to change one by one all of my accounts. Guess I would have to have a current and a new one at the same time to do this? 5. Any volunteers to untangle this mess? Just kidding. We have 2 email accounts...mine & my husbands so this will be a major feat.

Do you have your own website? If not, you might want to take a look at the one I've been using the last dozen years or so. http://www.olm.netLots of good things about this company. Take a look at their service plans. They offer Apache servers and CPanel access, which means it is possible for you to integrate many things into your website that are more than a basic website, as well as infinite sub domains and infinite space. I would try to keep both services while transferring, but I'm generally a cautious type of person. Not sure that it is necessary, that is, if you can back up everything you already have to your own hard drive... and then back that up to another! Something else to keep in mind... many things you have purchased over the years are going to be tied to THAT email address. For instance, you may have purchased software online and your login address name with any company is likely going to be your email address. I know that is how I am identified at Adobe. When you can no longer log in with that addy, you can sometimes lose, so you definitely want to make sure you notify every company you've purchased from as well as friends and family. Of course, another advantage of having an email address tied to your own website is that you don't have to change again... unless the spammers get it. But, with olm, they allow you to create numerous email addresses too, so you can set up special ones for different uses. In the past I've transferred my existing email from one account to another but I no longer remember how I did it.

I agree with Paz.
Go with either a mail service provider or, better IMHO, just register your own domain name. In the UK domain name registration is around UK£40 for two years and normally includes ten email accounts (well it does here in the UK). We don't use our domain name for a website, although that was the original intention.

Happy New year.
I agree with John. Take out your own domain name and the hop from ISP to ISP to take advantage of the different deals. I consolidate a number of addresses into the domain address (by email forwarding), so it makes migration easy.

Thanks for the feedback! The one my tech guy recommended you do get a domain name included and I think it runs about $9/mo.

Thanks Paz! Still researching. The other place was $119/year with a domain name, unlimited email accounts, web hosting w/templates, and phone support.

I've used 1and1.com for my last 3 domains and they have been great. Email, Domain, everything included and prices vary from $6 and up including virtual servers. They were the Muvipix host when we first started, no complaints. The control panel, webmail and setup is all very easy too.

Thanks Chuck. Still looking around. I really only need a domain name and 2 emails. The place I mentioned does sell that for about $6/month. I don't need a hosting site.

1and1 has domain and email for $2.99 per month and a really nice web interface. You have to pay for a year in advance but at $2.99 that's not too bad 1and1 EmailJust click above link and then on Mail Solutions.
