The Windows update last week included at least 3 bad patches. KB 2803821, KB 2840628, and KB 2821895. If you haven't applied these, you should probably hold off for a while.

Thanks for that, Bob. That is why I generally do not apply any of the Optional Windows updates and why, in general, I don't make any other changes or "updates" to my system when everything seems to be running well. But I did apply Critical Update KB2803821; however, I haven't yet detected any problems. Also, my most recent mirror image of my C Drive was made before applying it, so I could restore if necessary. Question: Should I uninstall the patch now, or just continue to monitor for any problems? Thank you. Re: bad Windows UpdatesHere's some additional information about the KB2803821 problems.
In general, wmv video or video using one of the wmv codecs can have the top half chopped off or have black bars. It's affected Premiere Pro and TechSmith Camstasia Studio among others. You don't need to uninstall the patch if it isn't affecting you.
