Device Disconnect issue

Postby BuddyB » Tue Jul 09, 2013 4:26 pm

Very puzzling; does not shut me down or anything, but... I've been hearing the Device Disconnect sound for a while. When it sounds off if I'm using the mouse it hesitates for a second and then goes on about its business. Everything works, so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Could it be that the Mouse is about to fade into the sunset?

It could also be the port. The first thing I'd try would be to plug the mouse into a different USB port and see if it solves the issue. It could also be another USB port with a device plugged into it. It doesn't have to be the mouse.

Is it a cordless mouse and is the driver up to date?

Do you have a lot of unpowered USB devices?
I could be that there is not enough power available for the USB devices.

I don't know why it didn't dawn on me to switch ports..duh! I did and so far I haven't heard the disconnect sound, the mouse is fine. I don't know if the port went bad, a conflict, or there is a lot of drainage on it for some reason. The mouse isn't wireless and I believe it's the only non powered device in the operation. Once again you guys have given me good pointers. Thanks. My next curious question will be, in XP the 1394 connection showed up in Network Devices. In Win7/64 it doesn't, but the Firewire works great so that's not really an issue. :)

I had USB ports begin to fail on me. That was some time ago and, one by one, over a period of time, they failed. Another symptom that began to get worse and worse was Windows Explorer beginning to exhibit strange behaviour. For example, when right clicking on Computer then right clicking on the CD/DVD drive and selecting the 'Open' option to view files just would not work.

The remedy was a repair install of Windows (7 Pro in my case) and all reverted back to normal. Never did discover why or what was happening.

John that surely could be it. I went awhile with no issues, but later in the evening it began again. It doesn't seem to be affecting the Mouse like it did, but I'm getting the sound, so I s'pect somethins' up; will try that at some point, maybe sooner depending on what develops. I've just changed to a totally different USB port to see if the issue will go away; will know later today.

It's back big time. We're going out today; think I will pick up another Mouse. I've had this one a long time, and just maybe... On the Win 7/64 reinstall there is no longer a repair just an upgrade. On that one it will keep files, but it wants you to do a backup and a bunch of stuff with individual programs that it says may not work after the reinstall.

Would you believe it? It was the Mouse that would be soon dead. I went, plunked down $7, and "Boy Howdy" I'm in business again! The Mouse was several years old and I guess it was time..RIP. TPR that is exactly the screen I got. I didn't pursue much further because of time constraints, and I'm glad I didn't. It might have been a lot of wasted time with the problem still there. Sometimes the forest gets in the way of the trees.
