A critter has attached itself to FirefoxConduit has caused me a great deal of grief. I finally got rid of everything Conduit, but I still have one little issue. There's a little 300X300 square that pops up in the lower right hand corner periodically with ads..annoys the stuffins' outa' me. I haven't been able to home in on it yet. I've run Malwarebytes and AVG both and they haven't come up with a solution. It pops up a lot when I'm at Muvipix, but I don't think anything has attached itself to the site, just the browser. Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxNo it doesn't show in Firefox ad-ons, and I haven't given Chrome a shot yet, but will. Here's a copy of the ad.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxThis may be too obvious, but you've checked your installed programs list in Control Panel to make sure that it's not in there?

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxI did, and there was nothing strange or unrecognizable there. Also, there doesn't seem to be an issue in Chrome. I'm in it now.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxBuddyB, where did you download Conduit? I went searching and saw there was a Conduit Buddy, but that can't be it. I was thinking that if I can download and install Conduit in a virtual machine and possibly get that pop-up to appear, I could try to find the hiding spot.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxI think I got Conduit when I downloaded something else deliberately and didn't notice that it was checked for download as well. Sometimes I get in too big of a hurry to notice the garbage that is included..my bad! I'm not sure, but I may have killed my issue; will know for sure when I get home from work today. I deleted a couple of things plus reset Firefox; did not have the issue when I used Chrome. As Arnold would say, "I'll be back."

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxFor what it's worth, Firefox does tend to be especially vulnerable to bugs like this. Not as bad as Internet Explorer, but definitely vulnerable. That's why I've switched to Chrome for all but a few functions.
On the rare occasion Chrome has installed some add-on I don't want, locating and deleting it as as simple as going to the program's add-ons screen. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxThere is a chance that Conduit is not the cause of that ad popup. Doing a internet search on 'conduit popup ads' does not give any meaningful results.
Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxMeantime, go to Firefox's Tools menu (If you can't see it, right click at the top of the program and show Menu Bar) and select Add Ons.
Look first at Extensions. Most likely you'll find the culprit there, hiding out as a "feature". If it's not there, take a look at the Plugins. Check for something with a weird name like Babylon Toolbar or Yontoo or something obvious like Ad Helper. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxYou need to discover the name of the process that causes the popup using the Task Manager or Sysinternals Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... s/bb896653). Then you have to go through the registry to find that process and anything related. Use Everything (http://www.voidtools.com/) to search your hard drives for those names.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxI'm happy to say that, holding my breath, I've cleansed Firefox of that pesky little critter. So far no pop-ups..yea! This has been a most interesting episode; picked up new thought processes in this event, and it makes me a smarter traveler. I appreciate education..neato torpedo.

Re: A critter has attached itself to FirefoxDave, it was kind of a drawn out feature over 3 or 4 days or so, and I usually shoot from the hip like the dumb cowboy I am, because for the most part I don't know beans from apple butter. I let my instincts lead me. First, I go to the Control Panel and see what needs to be cleaned there. I went through the Hi Jack This list and deleted some more stuff. I could see some names on pop-ups, which led me to the Start Menu and Search, put the names in and deleted a bunch of junk in there. When I searched for Conduit I've never seen such a gaggle of garbage in my entire computer career. Finally I did a Firefox reset, and that did it. Ff has been clean ever since. If I did anything else, at the moment, I just don't recall. Time constraints make me hurry up every chance I get. I'm prolly' fortunate that my computer hasn't exploded by now. I really glean a lot of thoughts here that seem to expand into positive results. Hope I didn't disappoint ya'.
