I have a pop up for a Java update "jucheck.exe". I did a search and seems there are warnings not to run it and others are posting that it is legit.
Run or don't run? Thanks.

Java Update?I have a pop up for a Java update "jucheck.exe". I did a search and seems there are warnings not to run it and others are posting that it is legit.
Run or don't run? Thanks. aka Cheryl

Re: Java Update? It's legit (as long as it's not a website popup). It's in my "Program Files" sub-folder. And I would keep it updated; it's been the source lately for security issues.
If in doubt, right-click the download after saving and scan it with your latest AV/Anti-Malware software. Regards,

Re: Java Update?+1 to what Ron said. Just to clarify, the security issues weren't from anything that Java itself did. They were related to a vulnerability that had been found that would allow bad guys to exploit Java. If you're going to have Java installed it should be kept updated.

Re: Java Update?I looked in the Program Files (x86) and did see Java. Looked around the sub folders and didn't see the file. Appears that it already is downloaded and my only option is to run. But, can't find it to scan.

Re: Java Update? It's located here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update". It's digitally signed by Oracle America. You can verIfy that if you right click on it and select properties then select the digital signatures tab.
Re: Java Update?Should be here - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update
If the file is there, you probably don't need to scan it. Edit: Ah, Bob beat me to it. My path is with a 32 bit WIN7. Regards,

Re: Java Update? In my version of W7 64 bit you can easy manual update by choicing Java (32bit) in the settingspanel. By clicking on the name a pane opens. The second is dedicated for the update. In this manner you can fully control the update.
As said before if you have installed Java you should keep this updated. AllieB
