Music for memorial and reminiscing videos

When music makes the video, discuss and recommend soundtracks for specific themes/subjects.

I think it would be nice to have songs from throughout their lives, especially in the case of your dad. I'm sure they must have favorites that you know of.

For your dad, there's Glenn Miller and the other big bands, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett. I know my parents love this stuff.

For your brother, maybe something from the sixties; Beatles, Beach Boys, Frankie Valli... There's so many of them.

You can look at itunes at the many imixes for different decades and that may give you some good ideas.

Lisa,

Sure, I think You are refering to my contest entry from the Bronx Zoo. The two songs I used are

Ordinary Miracle - Sarah McLachaln (but it can be found on the Charlotte's Web soundtrack)

Stay Gold - Stevie Wonder (theme from The Outsiders) I love this song, so moving.

As you can see soundtrack make good places to look for music for videos...someone has already chosen them to be part of a movie.

Which reminds me, another good song for these type of videos (again from a soundtrack, A League of their Own) is
Now and Forever from Carole King

And then there is always
Jim Croce - Photographs and Memories and
Time in a Bottle

Donna,

One suggestion is to do a search on Google video or Youtube for the song. SOmetimes you can catch a music video or someone's vidoe set to the music and hear more/all of the song before you buy it.
Happy Editing,

Beth

I was trying to keep Dad's simple, songwise, but through his 82 years it might be hard to find just one that says it all. I may have to find several. I'm sorting through Mom & Dad's CDs now .. and do have the ability to gather from vinyls and cassettes if need be.

The rock and roll stuff is easy for me. :-D

That's OK .. I'm almost thinking that it might be a good way to link our relationship to find meaningful words from MY era.

The song I used near the end of my recent gallery post (2nd of the 2) was "When you say nothing at all" by Ronan Keating. I was not keen at first (probably something to do with his "boy-band" history), but my wife convinced me.

That song was the most talked about by all who watched the video on the night.

It's always amazing to me how music can be such a powerful emotional trigger.

"What a wonderful world" was also a hit.

I like Donna's suggestion on music sharing. Even if there was just a request forum and then music could be emailed direct.
cheers

"When you say nothing at all" by Ronan Keating.

I still like the Alison Krauss version best :)

This would depend on the person and the age group but;

Precious Memories - by the Statler Brothers is very nice.

I'll Fly Away - Alison Krauss from the 'Brother Where For Art Thou' soundtrack.

Photograph - Ringo Starr

If you want to do a memorial from the perspectivve of how you they raised you, I would go with You Raised Me Up by Josh Groban or Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. Another one is Your Song by Garth Brooks.

I used "Will I See You In Heaven" by The Jayhawks for a tribute to my grandfather. It's from their "Rainy Day Music" CD.

In case anyone is interested, "All Good Things" by Klaatu is a great song with which to memorialize dogs:
