As long as you can import the video on to your harddrive you can then use Get Media From Folders and Files to import it into PE7. That is what I always do with my Sony AVCHD camcorder. I use the Sony software that came with the camcorder for it's library feature... and then import using the Get Media From Folders and Files route.

Thanks for the reply. So I guess you like the Canon included Software? I installed the included software, looked at it, and then removed it. I wish I could import directly to the timeline but unless I hear differently I will do as you recommend. I could also use Windows Movie maker to import. I can only guess that although PE7 supports USB import, PE7 just doesn't support import with the Canon. I wish I was as advanced as others on this Forum but at 67 I just can't remember all that I read and learn. Short term memory loss is a real pain! "Senior Moments". I am trying though. This Forum and Adobe Forums see me through. Could not do without both!

Sorry! I see you had a Sony not Canon! Another "Senior Moment"! You'll be there someday!

Don't try to "capture" using ADS or pass through. Flash based cameras create video files that can be copied directly to the computer via USB. Once the files are copied to the computer, you can use them in your project.

One way to copy them using Premiere Elements 7 is to go to the Organize tab and click on the Get Media button. Then click on the AVCHD button This will bring up the Media Downloader which will allow you to select your camera and download the clips to the computer.

You can also get to the Media Downloader by going to the "File" menu and selecting Get Media from tapeless camcorder.

Sounds good to me! I just made a video of my grandkids birthday party. I'll post the results and what I think of the Canon video.

My new Canon Vixia HFM31 camcorder has exellent quality HD video! I am SO glad I returned the Samsung camcorder. I did spend an additional $400 but it certainly is worth it! The Canon has a 3 meg. camera as well and the photos are excellent as well, as long as the subject is not moving because there is no "action" setting. I played back my movies in Windows player (I have this new 23" Dell HD monitor) and I am amazed at just how good my clips are! I have not ever burned a Blu-Ray disc before and in closing I would like to ask the Forum if there is any tips or precautions for doing same using PRE7?

Well, we do recommend that your system be at least a quad-core or i7 processor with plenty of RAM and hard drive space if you're going to edit AVCHD video.

Beyond that, though, you should get excellent results with the cam if you shoot at its highest quality levels.

Steve..I need to ask you more about ACHHD video. When I import from my camcorder the files are true, high quality, HD when viewed with Windows Media Player on this HD monitor. When I "Export to Movie" there is a quality loss. I am guessing that to retain the true ACHHD the files on the timeline MUST be burned directly to to Blu-Ray disc. Would I be correct? Can the completed movie be saved any other way as true HD to be burned later? I hope this is not a stupid question. Still learning......

Hi 357, Export Movie will only export a standard definition AVI file, not what you are looking for.
You will need to use the Share tab and select a HD preset, there are many options so if you have Steve's book it will sure help ;)
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Thanks Chuck! I intend to buy Steve's book if it is not "over my head" as a beginner. I have been looking at the "share" but I know very little about the correct settings. I'll try to do more research. Can I burn this project to a folder in HD to burn later?

I don't believe there is a burn to Blu Ray Folder option like there is for Standard Definition video.

Go to the share tab, select Personal Computer and then select MPEG, then from the presets drop down choose MPEG2 1920 x 1080i 30 and see if that gives you better results.

Just one last question Chuck. Does PRE 9 support the option to "export to movie" in HD? I have not used the supplied "Pixela" software but that may be an option.

You can absolutely Share your movie in a number of hi-def options, 357 -- from BluRay to MPEG to MOV.

How do you plan to display your output movie? On a BluRay disc? On a computer? Online? That will help determine which is the best format to output.

My goal Steve, is to be able to save as a HD movie to watch on my computer (via Realplayer or Windows Player) and to be able to burn to a Blu-Ray whenever. If I can do that with PRE9 then I will go that route when I can. I do not know yet if Pixela will give those options.
