need help downloading video from camera

Postby ridon127 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 7:26 am

I was asked to download some video to burn to a dvd. I got the camera and no manual. So if someone could tell me how to get the video off of a sony handicam DCR-SR 220 to my computer, i would greatly appreciate it..

It's a standard-def hard drive camcorder, so you'll need to attach the camcorder to your computer via USB, start a Premiere Elements project using the DVD/Hard Drive Camcorder preset and then use Get Medai, AVCHD or Other Hard Drive Camcorder to import the video from the cam using the Media Downloader.

I can't open the manual. It says I need a password.. I just need to know where the play button on this thing is. I don't want to mess with it and erase what they have recorded. It is for a Down Syndrome group and I don't want to lose their material. I found the firewire port. If you can just point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it..

Try downloading the manual again. It may has been a corrupted download the first time. It opens for me with no password.

Donna,

I think that you have Premiere Elements 7 and I think that this Sony DCR-SR 220 camcorder can record either 5.1 channel audio or 2 channel audio with its standard definition MPEG2 video. Whether it is 5.1 or 2 channel seems to depend on a camera setting when the recording was done.

a potential consideration with PE 7 (only version 7)
The 5.1 with SD MPEG2 does not exactly match any project setting and version 7 will place the video on a higher numbered track of the Timeline and NOT on track 1.

My suggestion is that if you are using PE 7,
you add a file of this video to the Timeline (and specifically do NOT add this video using the Sceneline), observe what happens and then post back here. If it is 2 channel audio, it should be normal: if it is 5.1 it will go on a higher unused track and we can discuss alternatives for working with it.

It opens in PSE for me. I guess I don't have anything else on this computer that will open it. It doesn't give me a choice and since my laptop is out of commission, this is my only computer at the moment..
Thanks anyway

OK, that explains it. The pdf does not require a password for opening in Adobe reader for viewing or printing, but it does have a password for content modification or copying.

It sounds like either PSE stole the pdf file association from Adobe Reader or you don't have Adobe Reader installed. If you have Adobe reader installed, use open with to change the file association to reader. Or, simply download the current Adobe Reader and install it. http://get.adobe.com/reader/
