Canon hf 10/11

Postby Wheat King » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:06 pm

Hi all, I've been trying to follow the flash memory camcorders as it's "probably" the next camcorder I'm likely to purchase.

Last week Canon released the HF 11 that will record high definition at 24 Mbps previously the hf 10 could only do about 17 Mbps max. Is this a significant difference in quality? Does this mean that I would be able to crop footage in my editor and maintain better quality or am I misunderstanding what Mbps is?

24 Mbps will record more raw data per frame of video than 17 Mbps, which theoretically should result in better quality video. The camcorderinfo.com review produced less-than-expected results as far as improved quality, but they also thought there might have been a problem with their test model and will be re-testing soon when Canon sends a new sample. I'd wait until they re-test it before deciding.
