HV30 Lens Hood

Postby Bobby » Fri Jun 27, 2008 7:13 am

I now have a protective UV filter on my HV30. Of course, I had to then get a 43mm lens cap!

Anyhow, I have come to the realization now that I need a lens hood. Since I have the filter on, it could be a press-on or screw-in type. But since I have never seen a lens hood with a standard filter thread, that doesn't seem likely, so press-on is probably the answer.

I have searched around http://www.hv20.com and also the big camera vendor websites but can't seem to find anything. Even the wide angle or telephoto add-on lens sets don't seem to come with hoods.

Any ideas from all my friends here?

Thanks, Bob

I use this 43mm screw-in hood http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1 ... _Lens.html but it appears to be out of stock right now. Maybe another vendor has it in stock.

I also just recently got a wide-angle for my HV20, a Raynox 6600 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... &Q=*&bhs=t. It doesn't matter which one, all of the Raynox 6600's are exactly the same except for color and rear thread size. I got the 58mm with a 43-58mm step-up ring so I can also use it on my PD150. The step-up also eliminates vignetting and gives a larger "sweet spot" for zoom-through. This hood http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/4 ... _Hood.html fits the Raynox perfectly.

Thanks. I did see the B&H one, but thought it should be a petal type, not round, as it is widescreen.

I found a website that let's you download a PDF file for a paper hood - no joke. I will have to check that out!

And I do think I will invest in a wide angle, but I have to confess that the wide angle I bought for my previous camera was almost never used.

Actually, the round one works just fine. You can't see it in the frame even at full wide. It also gives a bit of protection because it is flexible rubber.

I find the Wide Angle lens is absolutely vital when taping indoors, in low light, or anything closer than 3-4 feet.
