Advice on purchase of a new video camera?

Postby Cinde » Thu Sep 20, 2012 5:53 pm

Can't wait to get on the road again! Until now I have been using my trusty li'l Olympus Camedia C-60 for still pix.
Now I am ready to venture into video. I am looking for a camera that will do both video and stills, or video only.

Budget is around $1,000.

I will be editing in PREL 8

Any thoughts?

A Canon or Sony AVCHD cam would be your best bet, Cinde. Assuming your computer is powerful enough to edit AVCHD. (Virtually all camcorders can also shoot still photos -- though I'd still keep the Olympus around for those.)

But I would recommend you upgrade from version 8 also. Version 8 was not one of the better versions of the program, and it could be a real dog with AVCHD. Version 10 is much better with that format. In fact, the program was given a major tune-up in 9 and 10 just to handle AVCHD more efficiently!
