The file properties look good and the file size is large enough for HD. I don't see any info regarding if this was 2 pass or 1 pass.

Did you have the digital zoom on for the falls shots? I found this review:

Image stabilization is solid, helping steady shots at both the wide end and telephoto max. The 32x zoom is impressive, and could really come in handy if filming, say, a school play from the back row of a large auditorium. Obviously even powered image stabilization can only do so much, and when fully zoomed, video had the same dreamy wobble found on the M50, though it was a bit more noticeable on the R300.

Can you make a few test shots that are in closer range and try the compression settings again to see if it is a zoom problem?

Cheryl...sorry I haven't responded sooner. I'm not sure what zoom I was using. I've been trying to get out and take some more video but the heat & humidity are oppressive here lately. I lose all my energy within about 5 minutes. I did shoot a little yesterday but haven't tried it in PRE yet. I started at the most zoomed out first and then went in just a little closer...don't think I went even halfway into the zoom range. I'm hoping to work on it tomorrow and get something posted.

THANKS!!

On my old SD Sony & my HV 30 & 20 I have the digital zoom turned off. Your camcorder may be better at the zooming. This really isn't my area of knowledge and maybe someone else can jump in here.

I don't think you ever want to use the digital zoom on any camera if possible, stick to optical zoom only and even then only when necessary.

Yep, optical zoom uses the lenses to produce zoom, and that's a good thing. Nonetheless, the pros will tell you to get in closer to your subject instead of using optical zoom if possible, but of course it isn't always.

Digital zoom just "blows up" the pixels until you get the desired zoom. That means decreased resolution and increased pixelation - just like enlarging an image on your computer until it looks awful. The first thing I do when setting up a new camera or camcorder is turn off the digital zoom.

Unfortunately, my version of that camcorder series does not downconvert (only models with built-in memory can do that).
as far as digital zoom goes, i had it on auto the whole time and, apparently, that limits it to optical zoom according to what the manual says.

still trying to get nice stuff, i tried a different upload format a few weeks ago...i did it as mpeg (output is "m2t") and it now can go to 1080 in youtube. i have played the 2 uploads side by side for a comparison and the m2t looks better...

mov format is here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEuIyc1iBL0
mpeg is here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvtnpDM462I

i guess this is a way around using the mov settings, though the m2t file is huge...
