Here is your post showing what codecs are supported for WMV files
viewtopic.php?p=50364#p50364

I really think your problem is with SmugMug, not the video you are producing.
Can you contact them to see what the problem might be?
Any WMV produced from Premiere Elements should work according to their own statement.

Your exported 1080i MPEG2 video should have audio... unless you have de-selected audio in the Advanced window or have set the Multiplexing to None in which case the audio will be exported as a seperate file from the video. Could be your media player is not playing the audio.

You can also export as AVCHD... using the H.264 1080i preset in the MPEG2 Share option.

Audio volume was set to high for all clips.
What is Multiplexing? And where do I set it? or unset it?
I tried two different media players, there was no audio.
The same project as a wmv file had audio just fine.

I tried the AVCHD format - is that the one that formats out as m2ts? I believe it was one of the several I tried - actually was the first. However, SmugMug doesn't permit that format. If AVCHD is supposed to have a different file extension, please let me know what it is?

Sorry for the difficulty of trying to fit SmugMug's requirements. Once I get it pinned down, though, I should be set.
I have emailed SmugMug to clarify why the WMV file did not upload.

Out of curiosity I have opened a SmugMug account and have uploaded two HD WMV files. One is 1080i and the other 720p.
The 1080i is video only, no audio, the 720p clip does have audio (one of my nephew's songs).
The files have been uploaded and are currently being processed. I don't know how long that takes.
Both files were exported from Premiere Elements 7.

Also, just read this at SmugMug
Stuff to know:
1. Uploader:

Use the Simple or Olde Faithful uploader. When you click the add photos button?, we usually remember the uploader you used last time and take you to it. But near the bottom of the page on the left you'll see a link that says, "Try another uploader." Click that and choose Simple (first on the list) or Olde Faithful (last on the list).

2. Format:

No worries, 99% of the time we can convert from whatever you upload to the ever-so-cool h.264 format, which works on iPods, iPhones, AppleTV, PlayStations, and many other consumer devices.

But what comes off your camera could be bloated and take a long time to upload. So you might consider using a program like MPEG Streamclip or Quicktime Pro to convert to h.264 before uploading.

They will convert everything to H.264 it seems so you might as well start there and convert everything to either MPEG4/H.264 or MOV/H.264
But as they say, you should be able to upload just about anything and they can convert it for you.
They even mention MpegStreamclip and QuickTime Pro :)

Okay two things:
WOW what a nice guy!
I'll be very curious how it goes. For my tries, both apparently uploaded easily and seemed to process completely, but eventually the processing image in the gallery disappeared.
You can see the messages associated with the upload attempt under:
Control Panel/Stats/Photos Uploaded - View Upload Log (select show errors).
Would it make a difference if you created the WMV file from an m2ts file, as to whether the file should be accepted by SmugMug?

Second, here's the response from SmugMug. Could someone please tell me what I'm supposed to do?

Thank you for contacting SmugMug. We're sorry you're having trouble uploading video files. The error message you're reporting usually means that there is a codec problem. Sometimes WMV files contain a codec (either video or audio) that is not supported. WMV is just a container, so not all WMV files are created equal.

Could your try running your video through a converter for us and changing the video to h.264?

MPEG StreamClip or http://www.squared5.com work well.

I believe the h.264 results in an m2ts file, right? That's not an allowable SmugMug format...
I guess I'm gack to trying the FLV format tonight...

FYI, I did use the simple uploader.
I believe I did try the mpeg as well and it had no audio. Will verify that tonight.
Do I understand this right, though, that converting to an MPEG loses the High Definition?

Select MOV or MPEG4, and you can then select the H.264 codec.
Then change the size of the video under advanced. Probably won't look as good as the HD WMV does though.

According to the Specs at SmugMug the format of the WMV is exactly what they require, don't know why it wouldn't work.
The source files shouldn't have anything to do with the converted files working or not.

You want MPEG4 (with H.264 codec) not MPEG2, change the video size under the Advanced options.

WOW, one video uploaded! Which one did?
And - Why did you upload a 1080i without audio?

The first one, 1080i uploaded.
I just put a HDV clip on the timeline and exported, didn't think about audio at the time.
That's why I did a second 720p version with audio.

Seems to be working so far.

Okay, now I remember part of the problem - MPEG4 is not an option.
Now I don't know how to make MPEG4 an option.
EDIT: It is not available in any of the advanced options either.

Ok, I found out that the WMV file audio is WMA 9.2 and I guess that isn't supported.

What you are looking for is the H.264 codec, which shows up on the dropdown in your screen shot.
It doesn't matter if the file is MOV, MPEG, or whatever, just so the codec is H.264.

You can find MPEG 4 under the advanced settings for Quicktime if you really want to go that route.
Personally I think you should choose Quicktime and then under advanced settings select the H.264 codec.
That should be all you need.
