Audacity settings

Postby ed » Sat Mar 03, 2007 3:14 pm

I used Audacity for the first time to narrate a video recently. I eventually got the audio not that bad, but it was still somewhat muted. What are the optimum settings to use to get louder crisp audio.

PS - It could just be my cheap PC :)

Hi Ed,
Under Edit/Preferences there is a Quality tab, you can make various changes there, you can check the help for a description of each option.

That is the only place I know to make changes to the quality settings. Type of Microphone and Sound Card will also make a difference as to how the finish product sounds. I have always had real good results with it.

Thanks chuck, I didn't look in the preferences ( why read the instructions first :) ). I guess I'll just play around with those 'till I get better quality. The mic is a good one, so it must be the settings.

I'll post what settings I finally use here, after I get a chance to experiment.

Well, after all that what made it better was going in to the control panel and checking "Microphone Boost". Duh

I did have to mix the mids and highs a little higher to make the recording sound better.

Thanks for posting back with the answer, sometimes those simple things are the last things we check.
