IRF video files

Postby AVITRY » Fri May 17, 2013 8:28 am

Is anyone familiar with this type file. I looked it up on the internet and all I found was some type proprietary surveillance camera format. I was asked to convert it to regular DVD but not only am I not familiar with the file type, I don't know if it would produce a full screen halfway decent quality SD DVD.

thanks in advance for any advice, or freeware (hopefully) program to convert. I still use PE3 so I'm guessing it won't read that file type.

With Premiere Elements 3, about the only format that works well is DV-AVI.

You can try a program like Super Video Converter (or, better, Aunsoft Video Converter -- though it isn't free) and see if it will convert it to a DV file. (Make sure it's DV and not an AVI, which is way too general of a file format.)

You could try changing the file extension to .mp4 or .mpg.

I've seen references where h.264 video is mentioned. Not sure if audio is involved.

From what I can gather, IRF is a proprietary format encapsulating H.264. Here's a program called irftool.exe that will convert .irf to .avi, but it's mpeg avi, not dv-avi. That can be converted to dv-avi if necessary. Go to http://www.iviewtech.com/ivt6/support.html and download from there.

Thanks guys, and thanks Bob for the link. On a long shot, (since I'm working with such an old version of PE) is it possible that the newest version of PE can actually handle this format? If so, I'd probably just buy it. But up until now I haven't had vers. 3 not able to do what I usually do. (or any other NLE for that matter.)

thanks again,
joe

IRF is a proprietary container format. It's not supported in Premiere Elements.
