ImgBurn: Why Free?

Postby George Tyndall » Tue May 10, 2011 11:26 am

A post by Bob prompted me to look into the capabilities of ImgBurn.

Does anyone know the story of how it happened that such a fabulously-capable program is made available free of charge, specifically, who pays the associated production and disseminatino costs?

Like most such projects, it was most likely a labor of love. Like VirtualDub.

Although there's also a lot of advertising on the site -- and the option to make a donation via PayPal. If you really believe in the program, I'd encourage you to send him $20 or so.

I donated.

He probably gets something for promoting other products.

With PRE7, I can't burn the Blu-ray timeline to folder, only directly to a disc.

But ImgBurn can quickly create an image of the disc--at the same time that PRE7 is burning the HD timeline to SD folder.

Once that SD folder has been created, ImgBurn can quickly burn to disc, simultaneously, both a SD disc from folder and a Blu-ray from the ISO image that it previously created.

(Now that I've switched from LightScribe to ink-jet labeling, my SD and Blu-ray burners are both available for burning.)

For that capability, I'm willing to make a donation for sure.
