Alternative to ImgBurn

Postby Steve Grisetti » Sat Feb 10, 2018 9:50 am

For years I've been touting the benefits of ImgBurn, the terrific, Windows-based free disc burner software.

Unfortunately, the software has become so riddled with bloatware that some anti-virus software is indicating it as malware. There are ways to get around the bloatware -- but life shouldn't be that complicated.

I've discovered and am now evaluating some freeware from our friends at CyberLink (creator of PowerDirector video editing software).

Power2Go is free, though there is also a purchase-able version. The free version gives you the ability to burn data discs, playable DVDs and BluRays and never expires. The only clumsy part is that you have to install the free trial for the full version for 15 days (and deal with a nag screen during that period) before the program downgrades to the free version.

If anyone else would like to download the program and test it, you can get it from the CyberLink web site.
https://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/tri ... en_US.html

If the program pans out, we'll open up a forum dedicated to it and I'll create some basic tutorials.

Sounds like a good find Steve.

I do not burn too many disc's anymore but having a simple easy solution is something that appeals to me. I know there are differing views but typically I am interested in watching whats on the DVD and always try to bypass all the menu's to start playing.

Remember that Windows from version 7 has built in image burn capabilities. They aren't fancy but do the job. Simply right click the .ISO and there will be a "burn" option.
Windows 8 onwards can also mount ISO images without additional software.

I quote from the creator of ImgBurn:-

"It isn’t bundled with anything. You might be offered something from a 3rd party (within the installation wizard and handled by a 3rd party plugin) if you download from the ImgBurn mirror site, but the other mirrors offer 100% clean versions."

That's what he told me (so please don't shoot the messenger!!) :-D

Strangely, you can find ImgBurn without all the bloatware if you download it from a software site, like MajorGeeks.

It's most riddled with bloatware when you get it directly from imgburn.com.

Only five minutes????

Usain Bolt could give me a ninety five metre head start in a one hundred metre sprint and he would still catch me before the finish line. :(
