Kind of like ultimate morphing. Pretty cool.

Haven't done that on purpose, but I recogized the look immediately. That's what you get when you drop "I" frames from a video stream that uses I and P frames -- DIVX, XVID, etc.. It looks like they eliminated all but the first I frame and cut and pasted the P frames in different orders in some places. You could probably use VirtualDub to compress to DIVX or other similar high compression codec that generates P frames and set the I frame interval to a high value to eliminate the extra I frames. Not sure if VirtualDub will let you do the cut and pasting without reintroducing I frames -- I haven't tried it. You may need another editor that doesn't fix errors in the video stream to do that. I would have to look around, I tried a program called avidemux a long time ago that was like that. I don't know if the current version still does though.

 No, well maybe :) . I thought it looked interesting, but not sure when I would use it. Maybe some short clips during the rolling credits.

After scrounging around I found 2 tuts. One is for a mac and the other for a pc. The mac version is from the guy who created the Chairlift video. There were 2 programs used and think that one was avidemux as you mentioned.

Looks very similar to the effect used in the Predator movie.
