Hi- I'm trying to create a sparkle effect- (in PE4) I know there must be some way to do this using the lens flare effect, or one of the lighting effects. Specifically, I have a small jewel image that I want to animate so it looks like it's sparkling. any ideas? Thanks, Gail

This old thread will help you. It was one of the first effects that Wheat King helped me with. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=124&hilit=lens+flare+sparkle

thanks- I saw that and tried to duplicate the effect that he used for the ring, but I must be doing something wrong, because nothing is showing up.

Try to apply the effect to the video or the photo and use the settings Beth listed.

Checked a project from last year. Apply the lens flare directly to the video or photo. Used 105mm and keyframed 0 to 112 to 0. Adjust the flare center.

thanks- I'll try again- but so far I'm not having much luck. PE4 doesn't give me all of the options you're showing here - hope this will work!

I think I've got it! It turns out it didn't show up on the jewel- I had to use the effect on the background for it to show up. Thanks so much! Gail

Glad you got it Gail! For PrEl users, there is a small 'set up' square icon next to the effect's name in the Property panel. Click on that to set the center & the flare type. Can keyframe the brightness & center too by clicking on the stop watch.

The option that I seem to be missing is "velocity". I have all the other choices. Is that important?

Also- I'm not sure how the "blending w/ original" works- can anyone explain? I don't see any difference when I change that setting.

Pro has a velocity graph in the properties panel. It shows the rate of speed from one keyframe to another. I find it very useful when keyframing pans & zooms in a slideshow to keep the same pace. The blend with original...haven't used it with the lens flare...probably helps to make the flare look part of the video and not just on top, similar to lowering the opacity. Maybe someone has a better explanation.
