Using cross dissolve vs fade in/fade out

Postby Jayell » Sat Jul 21, 2007 5:09 pm

Just trying to see if I understand the process.

IF I'm going to use cross dissolve between my stills .. I often get frustrated with the transitions disappearing as I move photos around (yes, I know I should put the transitions in last, but I don't work that way :-) .. so I've gotten to just using fade in/fade outs which follow the photos wherever I happen to move them. I understand that the result is a little different, but bear with me.

The question: Do the fade in-fade outs take appreciably longer to render when finalizing the movie (whether through creating a DVD or saving to an avi) than if I was using cross-dissolves? Assume hundreds of photos. Or is this negligible?

I can't imagine any reason it would effect your render time differently, Jayell.

I guess since applying effects normally adds to render time (or so I understood), I thought maybe it would be different than applying a transition. Thanks for the response, Steve.
