Orchids

Postby Arnie49 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:55 am

I would like to create some special effects in movies using flowers (mainly orchids). Obviously, I am not too creative and am hunting for ideas. Would appreciate any help in finding information on this website or references to printed material or other sources. A great big thanks for any help. Arnie

Hello Arnie, can you give a little more info on the type of effects that you have in mind?

This is one of my favorite affordable stock photo and stock video sites.

I did a search on orchid and lots of great things came up, including some great short videos!

Yes, more info on what you want to achieve. I did a quick search at Youtube for animated flowers and several pages came up. Lots of time lapse videos too.

I went to fotolia.com and found some beautiful orchid pictures on solid backgrounds of white, light blue, black, green and rock wall. This is my first step, finding out how to do this. I am also looking for some video's and,I will keep looking on fotolia.com.

I went to Youtube and Fotolin and saw a lot of video ideas that I can now think about. I didn't know these sites had what I was looking for. I would like some help on how to get the pictures onto a plain colored background. I could then move from picture to picture with a transition and music playing in the background. Appreciate the help in getting to the sites for ideas.

Arnie, if you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements try doing a Google search for something like 'extract from background tutorial in....'

Hre's just one example of what I found:

You'll find plenty of material describing what (I think) you are trying to achieve. :-D

I have been working on all of the ideas. Is the following possible? If so, I would sure appreciate some suggestions on how to proceed.

I would like to create a PictureA in a PictureB. PictureA is a clip of an orchid taken in front of a Blue Screen and placed on Video 2. Videomerge has been used to do away with the Blue Sceen. A light colored matte has been placed on Video 1. This works fine. Now, I would like to use these two clips as PictureA. PictureB is a clip of my lawn with trees in the distance. Can this be added? If this is possable, I would like to use keyframing to enlarge PictureA to cover PictureB.

Hi Arnie. If I have understood correctly what it is that you are trying to achieve, try exporting the completed Picture A as an .avi then import that into the project, placing it above Picture B and keyframing the size/position.

Thanks. How do I export the two clips? File/export is grayed out.

Make sure the timeline is selected Arnie, that's the only reason I know of for the Export option to be grayed out.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

Please bear with a beginner. When I select either clip in the time line, the "export" is no longer grayed out. Does it make any difference which one I select? The orchid is already an .avi.

As long as one is placed above the other on the timeline then keyframing the movement is possible. This will work with .avi files and still image jpg (or psd....) files.

And it doesn't matter which clip is selected, you can still export the entire timeline or just what's under the work area bar. You don't have to select a clip to export either, just so the timeline is selected, you can click anywhere on the timeline to select it.

There is a tutorial on exporting using the work area bar to just export a segment of the timeline. It's there if you need it :)

It is a two part tutorial.
