Those are great tips, Steve. Thank you! BTW, with regard to your suggestion to restart as a way of freeing up RAM, here is a quicker alternative that works for me: Although I perform regular backups of my work while in the process of editing, I always intentionally Quit (instead of merely closing) my backup program, SmartSyncPro, each and every time I've completed the backup. Subsequently, re-opening the SmartSyncPro program will cause PRE7 to immediately "give up" lots of RAM (1 GB or more) that the program was apparently doing nothing with--and the result is that PRE7 once again becomes responsive.

Some good advice Steve, thanks.
When I first started using pre a few years back, the Adobe web site (and maybe Muvipix? I can't remember) recommended running MSCONFIG to disable all startup items and hide all Microsoft services. This also meant a re-boot which tidied up the RAM in advance of an editting sesion. This certainly helped speed things up on my old Pentium 4 machine (though I haven't bothered with the new PC as it runs pre7 pretty well anyway). Is this procedure still recommended? I don't know what effect it may have on security of the machine if the internet connection is still open.

In the pre-Pentium days, I used to have to run EndItAll to shut off all background processes in order to capture or do any serious video editing. But, with today's computers, it's generally not necessary. If your background processes are getting in the way, there's this great little tool from IOBit. http://iobit.com/gamebooster.html?Str=download#With Game Booster, you can turn off your background processes temporarily -- and then reactivate them with just a flip of a switch!

Ok, I've looked in Steve's Tips area and others, but I can't find these 10 tips. Where are they? Don

If you go to any of our products page (or even the Muvipix home page) and type "10 ways" in the product search box, it should come right up, Don. You can also view it online here, if you're a Muvipix subscriber: http://muvipix.com/learning/learning_pd ... fficiently

Ok, got it. One possible typo - under 8. Turn off Audio Tracks, you say "To hide your audio tracks, .... uncheck the option to Hide Audio Tracks" but it should say "uncheck the option to Show Audio Tracks". I'm sure everyone knows what you meant anyway. Good tips.

Good catch, Don! Sometimes I leave typos in just to see if anyone actually reads the articles!

If you end up making any updates to it, see if you can add a brief comment in section 6 to break the project up at the very beginning, not after adding titles, narration and soundtracks, as exporting to avi combines them into single video and audio tracks, and you can't edit them anymore.
Thanks for the tips. Don
