A few years ago, I bought for about $10 a pair of in-ear phones that provided the best audio I've ever heard from earphones, including some that cost $200 or more. A week ago, on a lark, I typed in the model number on ebay, and to my complete surprise the phones are still available--and for less than $8, including shipping from Hong Kong. I ordered a pair from the following vendor, they've just arrived, and they sound at least as good as their elder brother/sister. http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-SONY-MDR-E828-EARPHONE-FOR-MP3-PSP-IPHONE-3G_W0QQitemZ180417267532QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item2a01b5074c

I went into the store and bought every earbud they had for less than $25 each. The best was a pair of Sony (yellow sports model).

Ack! You got me all excited. Unfortunately that style just doesn't stay in my ear. ( I had a $12 pair of Koss that rocked, everyone who heard them were blown away. I still have them, but the cord is loose, and so the sound goes out. Unfortunately, unlike your Sony's, the Koss have lowered the quality on recent refreshes, and the newer version sounds decent at best. So I wait until another gem in the rough comes along. Until then I have some cheap Skull Candy ear buds that stay nice in the ear, sound is decent, but there is no insulation on the line, so that's annoying.
I wish I were creative enough to write something witty here.

Same problem for me with that style of earphone. Right ear is OK, the left one just keeps falling out.
