upside down camcorder

Postby sidd finch » Fri Jun 01, 2007 4:24 pm

A friend of mine tried recording some low angle footage by attaching his camcorder to a monopod and holding it upside down. He then rotated the video in PE3 to be right side up. I was wondering if this would do anything to harm the camcorder. I realize that if you hit the camcorder on the ground it would be bad, but would it harm any of the inner workings.

It sounded like an interesting idea to get some B-roll shots but I have a Sony HC-1 and the last thing I want to do is ruin my camcorder by pulling a knucklehead move.

I can't imagine it could cause any damage, Sidd.

Short of dropping them or dowsing them in salt water, it's really pretty hard to damage today's camcorders -- and certainly not by something as harmless as holding them upside down when you shoot.

Cool. I thought that there might be a counterwight in the tape to keep it tight. Thanks for the info.

Just found this forum and I've been reading though all the helpful information and thought I would jump on this thread and say I been filming upside down for a while without problems... I use the $15 steady cam (instruction on the internet) to steady the shots a bit.
Works well,

I dropped my camcorder on the floor when it was recording. You can definitely see during playback where that happened. Since then the camcorder has been working normally. My videos are okay.
