I have never found DVD RW disks to be reliable. They seem to "forget" too easily.

And they do. I would never use an RW (either CD or DVD) for archiving. Just for temporary use - test runs, etc.

(My bold!) I almost always check my finished DVDs by burning an RW DVD. No coasters that way. :-D

I've now thrown out the few DVD+RW discs which I still had. Won't ever be using them again!
Thanks, guys!
All the very best,

I have decided to use DL disks for the first time in a current project but checking on CDFreaks and VideoHelp forums I find that disk manufacturing issues have come up.

I'm pretty sure that Verbatim DL is still very good quality but the cost is still in the neighborhood of $2.00 US a piece! Phillips and Ritek are much more reasonably priced but then I have greater uncertainty.

BTW, IIRC, +R is still the most compatible burned media format for DL?

What is your most recent experience with DL media?

Verbatim +R DL. Used a lot of them and never a problem - well so far anyway. And you are correct about the price with DL DVD media being about 3 - 4 times the price of a standard DVD-R (before taxes) here in the UK. :(

I get the Ty 8x hub printable DVD-R from here:
http://www.supermediastore.com/category ... AIYO+YUDEN

Get on their email list and you will get promos.

Never buy the "Value Line", however. [-X

I buy the exact same media. I don't know if there are less expensive places to buy from, but they're a great place to shop and I think with free shipping they're very reasonable. Never had a problem with SuperMediaStore.

This second site

http://www.best-dvd-burning-software-re ... asp#blanks

has some of the same information in more summary form as well as recommendations on where to buy. There is also a link to a download that will verify the manufacturer of your blank media. The top recommended online store is http://www.supermediastore.com. Here is a sample of their current pricing on Taiyo Yuden 8x printable hub, including fre shipping.

Taiyo Yuden White Inkjet Hub Printable 8X 4.7GB DVD-R Media 200 Pack in Retail Cake Box with Two 104-Disc Capacity Black Leather-like Quality CD Wallet (Free Ground Shipping)
Sale Price: $67.99

Taiyo Yuden Premium White Inkjet Hub Printable 8X DVD-R Media 4.7GB 100 Pack in Retail Cake Box (Free Ground Shipping)
Sale Price: $37.99

Using your links and ImgBurn>Discovery, here is what I learned:

1) my HP SD DVDs@$35/100 are made by CMC MAG, AE3 and are therefore rated poorly (but I've yet to have a coaster) *

2) Panasonic media, including apparently my BD-Rs@$35/5 are made by Taiyo Yuden (also no coasters)

:tx: for posting
____
Late edit: *Interestingly, Verbatim discs made by the same manufacturer are rated good in the same link:
