Candle Effect

Postby momoffduty » Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:27 am

How do you make the candle glow in a pic? Saw this awhile back in Cinde's Memoriam proj. & most recently in Bob D.'s 18th bday project. Liked the way the 4 videos came in at the beginning and other pics in time w/music, Bob.

Here is a thread from awhile back
http://adobe.groupbrowser.com/searchthr ... flame.html

RJ's examples are here
[wmvvideo]http://www.chuckengels.com/PremierVideo/sharedfiles/presets/RobertJ/Flames/Flame_Examples_by_RJJ.wmv[/wmvvideo]

There are presets and a text file with explanation here
http://www.chuckengels.com/PremierVideo ... tJ/Flames/

And if you have any questions hopefully RJ will be able to explain his technique :)

Cheryl, I simply found a pix of a burning candle and edited in Photoshop Elements 5. I got rid of the background and then extracted only the flame as a separate pix. Then I dropped the original pix on PE timeline 1 and the extracted flame on 2. On the flame I used Video Effects> Distort> Wave Warp. Since it is only a pix I could stretch it across the timeline from beginning to end. I did that by trial and error before I knew about presets.

I didn't know about RJ's excellent work until I read this post. Now I have something new to look forward to in the winter months when I have more time to concentrate on learning all I can about Elements.

And I use anyones preset I can get my hands on! So I don't recall where it came fromm (probably RJ), but saw I had it as a preset and it worked perfectly for my son's 18th Bday video.

Thanks everyone. Tried to download the preset, but did something wrong. Will try again tomorrow.

You should be able to just click on the link and then select 'Save'.
You can also right click on the file and select 'Save Link As' or 'Save Target As', then select the location to save the file to.
They are small so it shouldn't take long. The text file has instructions.

The last example of the 4 examples in the following video is a still picture of a candle applied with the mosaic effect. There are presets for that as well.

Here is a link to the mirage presets I created for the video in the last post:

http://muvipix.com/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-1074

The presets are good for 5 seconds of effect. You'll have to copy and paste the keyframes in the properties panel to extend the length. They have a sine wave pattern that was designed to cover a 5 second period.

I have downloaded several presets in the past, can't believe I forgot. Good thing the tutorials are available and how to's here. Thanks RJ for the presets! I have emailed small files as greetings to friends. Had a few over for 4th of July and put 6 pics together with the last of group on bottom of pic and fireworks in top half...used the AVI portion of a Muvipix product for that one. Had an idea for bday greetings and will use the candle effect. Thanks everyone for the how to!
