Importing actions from older version to new version

Postby Ted » Sun Feb 06, 2011 6:01 pm

Hello all,

I have an action I created to add a watermark to my photos.

Is there a way to export it or somehow move it to Ver 9? Or must I create it all over again (something I've forgotten how to do! LOL)

Thanks for any tips.

Sorry, Bob... didn't mean to ignore you!

It's Version 8.0... but I found a way to do it from Photoshop Elements Village. :)

Thanks for responding, just the same!

Would you mind sharing the method with us Ted?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Not at all, Chuck! :)

Here's the link that was helpful to me:

http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/s ... p?p=553279

The following is from Wendy, the person who wrote the post:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The method is just the same as it was in PSE8:

If you want to use the Actions player, copy the atn files only (no need to copy the thumbnail and xml files) to here:

Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions

Vista and Windows 7:

C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions

Mac: Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions

Then open PSE9 and the action you installed will be in the Actions player drop-down menu.

If you want to add them to the effects palette then these are the paths:

Mac: Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects

Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was rather simple and I was so thrilled because I had forgotten how to create an action and so this helped save some time. :)

I'm glad that you were able to get the information. Version 8 to version 9 is a simple copy from one to the other, but earlier versions may require changes to the thumbnail and xml files in order for the action to show up in the effects panel in anything other than the "all" section. Which is why I asked the version..

Ahh, it was Wendy that helped you that figures. She is very nice and helpful and really good with Photoshop.
She had a web site but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Would love to post links to her stuff here on Muvipix.
