need DVD print psd

Postby momoffduty » Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:41 pm

Does anyone have a psd DVD template to share? Pre Elements has a print label, but it covers the hub. My discs are not hub printable. Thanks!

And if you are in a hurry I think the DVD Face Template (might be a TIF or PSD can't remember) is included in the Encore DVD Ribbon project located in the product section.

Sorry Cheryl, just downloaded the Ribbon project and it does not include the DVD Face and Case insert templates.
I will post them when I get home, about 7pm Eastern.

Actually the DVD Case insert is in my album in the Gallery
http://muvipix.com/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=59

There are two samples, both PSD files that can be modified, they are called DVD Cover Templates in the gallery.

I will post the DVD Face PSD (or Tif, can't remember) file as well later.

Cheryl,

If you have a .PSD DVD template, the "outer" and "inner" should be on a separate Layer. Mine have several "inner" hub diameters on separate Layers. These are just Shapes on the appropriate Layer, that has been Stroked with a 3 pxl. Pencil. If I need to do a layout, for say the T-Y with a 25mm. "inner," I just make that Layer visible. As different brands have different printable areas, it would be easy to just measure the hub diameter on yours, pull in guides to that diameter, then use the Elipse Tool, hold down Shift & Ctrl, to draw a circle from the center, position it on the center of the template, and expand to your guides. Go to New Layer, then in the Paths Palette, chose Stroke, after setting the color and the Pencil to the desired line width. Done. Just do not forget to "poke out the eyeball" on that Layer, when you print.

I use an Epson R-1900 (and R-320) for my DVD printing, and use their software. It has the ability to scale the inner diameter by mm and works well. I do all of my layout in PS, then just Import the .TIFF (or JPG) into the Epson SW and add any additional text, as is required.

If you need a .PSD template, let me know the inner hub diameter from your brand, and I'll get you one.

If I missed what you are looking for... then, nevermind.

Thanks for the directions Bill, but they seem a little complicated for me. The Brand is Verbatim, non hub printable.

I tried to print in Nero, but couldn't get things lined up and those darn dotted lines even printed! So went to PSE5 and had ink on the hub. Did look at Acoustica, but don't want to buy now. Have an HP Photosmart D5460 printer that has very limited options to print/design discs and have to use their format...think there are a total of 4 options. I prefer designing in PSE5 since I know my way around just a bit.

Free: set of nice coasters. :)

Here is the template, just delete what you don't want, or delete everything and start from scratch :)
I'm going to put it in the gallery, a zipped version. This one was 11mb.

Thanks Cheryl, they were designed by a friend of mine that I edit weddings for, he doesn't mind sharing :)

The reason the DVD Face Template is in TIF format is that the Epson PrintCD program won't recognize a PSD but works well with the TIF format.

Hi Chuck,
at last I found this! Was looking for a long time for such an inspiring CD label template. :)
Now I would like to understand the functions of the bottom 7 layers and how you constructed these layers and their content. Numbered from 1 to 7, bottom up:
Chucks CD layer labels.jpg

How are these layers created from scratch? How are they intended to interact, to work together?

In pse9, I tried to reproduce Form 1 of L6. I used Shift & Ctrl & Alt, to draw a circle from the center. What I got was a form of the circle area, which I could color in any color. But I did not succed to just draw the outline (fill the contour) of the circle. You see, I am still missing a lot.
But I guess that by some magic the 'Crop...' layers L2 and L7 crop at the contours of the circle and that L4 provides the pink color which gets masked by L3. But I have no clue how you construct these forms and make them interact as they should.
What surprises me most is the fact that the bottom layer L1 seems to overlay the color blend layer L4. I expected it the other way round, i.e. higher layers to overlay lower layers. I would love to fully understand what is going on.

Hi Nickky,
As you can see some of the layers are turned off, you can turn the layers on and off and get different looks.
You can change the color of layer 4, the blend layer. layer 7 is a image from a photo, you can replace it with any image.
Just need to make sure to feather the image so it blends in. Layer 6 is the DVD or Blu Ray logo.
You may also need to move the layers around, it's been awhile since I've looked at that template.
Does that help?
