scanner settings

Postby momoffduty » Mon Mar 26, 2007 11:01 am

Using a Nikon scanner. Tried to use photoshop as the host application, Adobe recognized the scanner but kept getting the twain error. Now using Nikon to scan & save and then will import into photoshop.

1. What size should I the scanner output file size? The default settings are W: 5782 H: 3946 Output size & 65.3 MB File size. When I use the default settings, Adobe reads 'File size to large' when I try to import.

2. General PS quest: Is it necessary to save as PSD file to use the edit quick fix? Only for the full edit?

I have 300 plus slides and want to get this right the first time.

Thanks.

When scanning for video/DVD presentation the images only need to be around 1024 x 768. When scanning, set the scanner to Pixel size and scan as close to 1024 x 768 as possible.

I sometimes have scanned mine using the inch settings, at as close to 4 x 6 inches as possible and 200 dpi. Those sometimes need to be resized for Premiere Elements but usually work fine.

If you want to print them later then you may want a better scan originally and then reduce the image for Premiere Elements later.

The files do not have to be PSD to use the quick fix.

Thanks Chuck. The plan is to scan, fix/repair in Photoshop and then DVD in Premiere Elements. The scanned file is tif, and reading the All inOne, that is the better format than jpeg. Thanks on the tip about printing from the larger image.
