Building a 360 pano image

Postby FunN4Lo » Tue Nov 15, 2016 9:38 am

I fly a Phantom 3 drone. I have made several 360 pano images. The type that you can now see all over Facebook, or host to various other sites.

This is my first post so I can not link to what I am talking about. :conf:

My current workflow: (the short version) :pull:
Stitch 25 pics in MS ICE.
Drones can not look up, and the image needs to be 360 x 180. So next I add some extra sky from stock sky images using Gimp

I would like to switch to PSE. Is anyone doing this that can point me to a workflow tutorial to be able to do this all in one place in PSE? :yh:

Just to be clear, are you are talking about still using MS ICE to do the stitching and then use PSE instead of Gimp to add the extra sky? Or, something else?

Can I stitch and add sky in PSE?

If not then the biggest question is adding the sky in PSE

Photoshop Elements can stitch together photos to create a panoramic picture -- but it doesn't create 360 photos.

I don't need it to make a 360 photo. Just a panorama that is 4 columns of pics by 3 rows of pics with a nadir. Does it have that capability?

It should be able to do it. I'd recommend you download the free trial and give it a test drive.

I can certainly do that.

But my original question was... can anyone point me to a tutorial to stitch the pics in PSE?

And also point me to a tut to add a stock image (that I have) sky pic. Or maybe even better duplicate or extend what sky is already there

Hi: I've been experimenting with my P3 Pro making pano's. 1st, I strongly recommend using the Auto Pilot Logic app to take the pictures autonomously. Available in App Store, about $40. The app will totally transform your Phantom. I created a simple pano in Photoshop Elements 13 using the tutorial suggested by Steve G: Hope this helps. Russ

Thanks for the follow up. I use DronePan to automate the photo taking with the P3P. I fly Litchi for many other things. One day I do have to try Auto Pilot. I will have to look at that stitching tut again. When I saw it was using 3 images, I didn't go further thinking it wouldn't handle 25

As another follow up... is a "simple" pano a spherical pano? If so how are you adding or manipulating the sky to create the 2x1 projection?

This is what I am building across multiple apps. Trying to simplify to one app. Click and drag to look up down and all around on a computer. Just move you phone around to the same on a phone

You would need about a 225ft arm to shoot that with a phone

That is 25 pics stitched together out of a Phantom3.

That is New Orleans. The Hurricane Katrina Memorial is at the nadir. look around and zoom in. Those "little buildings" you thought you saw that go in every direction for miles, are actually crypts called the cities of the dead
