Elements 13 Editor crashes

Postby Frankt » Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:07 am

Hi there,
i'm new on muvipix and i hope, someone can help me. I've written two book about Elements (in german) and i've told the readers, they could contact me in case of problems. Now a female reader wrote me an e-mail: her Elements 13 editor crashes everytime when she's trying to save a file. Elements 12 works fine.

I told her to switch of the media analysis and the watched folders. With teamviewer i took a look on her pc and deactivated the elementsXXL-Plugin. But everything without success.

Somebody outthere with an idea how to solve this problem?

ah - i made an dumpfile, but this is 3 GB large!!!

Yours Frank

Pardon my bad english!!

What operating system is she working on, Frank?

I have seen discussions about this problem on Windows 10 and the solution was to right-click on the program's execution file and select Run as Administrator.

Have you try right-clicking and selecting the Run as Administrator option.

Frank, by "save a file" do you mean saving the project file or exporting a video? What exactly do you mean by "File"?

We're talking about Photoshop Elements, Chuck. So it's about saving PSD or photo file.

Sorry, Frank. I'm not sure we can offer a general solution for what appears to be a specific problem. it could be related to your client's operating system, how much space she has on her hard drive or even a corrupted program file.

Has she tried launching the program while holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys (Cmd+Opt+Shift on a Mac) on the left side of her keyboard to clear her preferences? Or have you suggested to her that she delete her preference file completely and restart the program?

Again, these are general fixes, so they may or may not work in her particular situation.

Ooops, my mistake. Sometimes I just assume a problem is with Premiere Elements.

I would also assume that you have asked her to uninstall and reinstall the program? This is definitely not a common problem or we would have heard this from more people. What kind of crash does she have, does the program freeze, close completely, are there any error messages?

Sorry for my late response. I gave an Photoshop Layer-Course and stayed in an hotel this weekend.
The CTRL-ALT-SHIFT wasn't successful. I really dont know how to help this client. Very sad about that...

Frank

Well, as I said, Frank. There are few one-size-fits-all solutions to problems like this. So it's very hard to work through an intermediary because there are so many questions to ask and details to scrutinize. But sorry that we weren't able to help you help her.

I wish we could help, but I agree with Steve. In this case, there isn't a lot we can do to help. Most users of Photoshop Elements 13 are not experiencing this problem, so it is most likely something to do with her individual machine. Often, problems happen when you don't have sufficient space on the system drive. I assume you checked that. An uninstall and clean reinstall could help if a program module got corrupted. You might be able to get some clues from the Windows event log if you can identify one of the crashes in it. You may be able to identify a specific program module or get a better error message or id which you can use to search for related problems.

The only problem I've heard of involving crashes had to do with the Organizer and turning off the auto analysis helped that. Possibly the crash is being caused by the Organizer database being updated by the file save. Adobe was working on determining the cause of that problem, but I never heard that a fix was made available. Often, Adobe will roll fixes like this into the next release. Photoshop Elements 14 may work. She can try installing the free trial and see if it works in that version.

Installing the version 14 trial is an excellent suggestion Bob, it would be interesting to know if it has the same problem.

Just to throw into the mix a few of the more obvious things -
all drivers are up to date;
latest version of Quicktime is installed;
no small (one frame) gap in timelime;
(as mentioned by Steve and Bob) plenty of free space on the HDD(s);
no issues with the HDD(s) themselves - they are working properly;
no other issues with the PC (perhaps a repair install of Windows might help?)
AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.
