PSE11 can't "save as" .jpg

Postby wyzboing » Wed Jan 30, 2013 5:46 pm

Why do I have to manually type in the .jpg extension after the file name when I do a "save as" in PSE11?
If I don't type it in and just type in or change the file name then I just get an unknown file type which will not open with any software (Type:File or Type:.dct file)
In previous versions the file extension was put in automatically when I selected the file type from the file type drop down menu.
Is there a setting I can change to make this happen as this is going to be annoying - especially if I forget to manually add the file extension and do several "save as" as I am working in which case I am going to lose several versions.
Thanks

I've never heard of your having to type the .jpg extension on your JPEG saves.

Is it possible you have the option to see file extensions turned off in your operating system?

Photoshop Elements most definitely adds the suffix to your files, whether you can see it or not.

This is quite simple.

Whereas previous versions of windows Vista and earlier (not sure about 7) would tolerate dots in a file name it seems Windows 8 does not, other than the one that comes before the file extension. Just take out any dots in the file name and the file saves fine without having to manually type in the extension. Any existing files should be ok, as they will already have the file extension, but if 'saving as' the dots need to be taken out.

Obvious once you know.
