Launch PSE10 from Elements Organizer 11

Postby RJ Johnston » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:11 am

The problem was that if I tried to add Photoshop Elements 10 as a supplemental editing application in the Elements Organizer 11 preferences, I got a message that the 11 organizer already supports Photoshop Elements, and my PSE10 selection was rejected.

I found a way to launch Photoshop Elements 10 from the Elements Organizer 11 menus and buttons by creating a copy of PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the root of the programs folder for PSE10 and renaming the copy to PhotoshopElementsEditor2.exe. Both PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and PhotoshopElementsEditor2.exe are in the same folder. Now I can go into the Elements 11 Organizer preferences and select Photoshop Elements 10 (PhotoshopElementsEditor2.exe) as a supplemental editing application. This allows me to select a photo in the Elements 11 Organizer and edit it directly in Photoshop Elements 10. I think I forgot to mention that I don't have Photoshop Elements 11.

If you have done something similar but later have run into problems, please let me know. So far I haven't had any problems.

That's right. I have Premiere Elements 11 but not Photoshop Elements 11. I have Premiere Elements 10 and Photoshop Elements 10.

When I'm in the Elements 11 Organizer (that comes with Premiere Elements 11), there's a menu item and also a button, that you can click to launch either Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or some other application in order to edit a selected photo. The Photoshop Elements menu item is greyed out because I don't have PSE 11. I'm trying to fill in the path to PSE 10 for the supplemental editing option in the Organizer 11 preferences -- which I have now succeeded in doing.

Now I get it.

Here's my variation: Prior to PSE11, I was using the PRE7/PSE7 bundle to create my slides shows. After editing my JPEGs with the PSE7 Editor, I would begin the shows with the Organizer 7's Slide Show Editor and then "send" them to a PRE7 timeline for the final edit before sharing.

But now that PSE11 has come out, I use its Editor to prepare my JPEGs and then "get" them with the Organizer 7 to begin my shows as in the past. My chief reason for beginning with the PSE11 Editor is Guided Edit's ability to automatically add a vignette to my images before I switch to "expert" edit to finalize the portraits.

Needless to say, I'm so glad that Adobe allows us to have more than one version of Elements installed.
