Masks or Keyframing??

Postby slushparlor1 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 2:40 pm

Hello

I am trying to create the effect which Cheryl used quite a bit in her video entry for 60’s winner I believe.
I would like to have a photo keyframe to a smaller photo and then that photo get larger to fill the screen.

I’ve attached the small avi I made of what I would like to do and I will explain what I did so far:

I. I took a photo of my daughter and me at Easter and using PhotoShop cut out a section of the photo (in this case the picture frame).
II. I took this photo into Elements and underneath the photo I put a photo of four family members and keyframed the guy with the glasses so that he was prominently displayed in the photo frame.
III. I then exported this photo as a bmp into my movie so that I could keyframe it more easily.

So now I have my photo I want to start with and I keyframe to the picture fame and I see guy with glasses in  photo. I want to bring that photo up to the picture of the four family members but each way I try to do it looks clunky.

Does anyone know a good way to do this? I’m probably very confusing 
But then again I think all my posts are confusing :).

Thanks!!!

Can you post a link to the video showing what you're trying to do?

It makes it easier to figure out how to show you how to do it.

In Premiere Elements there will be lots of keyframing. With AE it is 1,000x easier.

In PrEl: Keyframe the photo with the cutout on Track 2 using scale & position. On Track 1 set keyframes for scale & position. The problem is keeping the track 1 photo in relationship with the photo on track 2. When I made the contest entry I had to set many keyframes inbetween the initial keyframes. Sometimes moving the CTI frame by frame.

In PrEl you are moving the photos whereas in AE the photos are set up in Z space and you are flying the camera through and setting keyframes only on the camera. The photos will appear to move in relationship to each other.

It's easier on version 10, maybe 9 also. Motion Tracking works really well.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Thanks Cheryl and Chuck,

Do either of you know of a good tutorial for either Premiere or AE? I feel like I spent many hours on this yesterday and really got no where (such is the life of a video girl - LOL)!!!

Theresa, here is a good AE tut on the effect:

I don't remember if this tut used a camera null. It is easier to move the camera if it is parented to a null. I usually then lock the camera so I do not accidentally move it. All keyframing is done with the null's x, y, & z keyframes.

Cheryl,

That would be awesome. No rush as it is for my Year in Review Video 2011 - LOL. I'm trying hard to get the knack of this but I think I'm wasting alot of energy and it's not the correct way to do it. I will send you an email.

Thanks so much again - I love seeing your work!!!
