A place to introduce and tell a little about yourself.

Hi everyone.
I'm new to this forum.
I'm retired, celebrating my 64th birthday tomorrow, and have a lots of leisure time.
One of my favorite hobbies is to gather photos and video clips from my daughters, work on DVD productions, mixing in slideshows, videos and music.
I have used a number of different software packages, and I'm currently hooked on Sony's Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite. Compared with what I've used before, the learning curve here is a little steeper, but the payback is unbelievable. This is a lot more robust than anything I've used in the past.
I'll be doing a quick forum search right after this in search for recommendations for a GOOD video converter. Is there such a thing as a 64-bit video converter?
Looking forward to share and exchange ideas. Have a good day.
Cheers!

Great to have you aboard, Ben! But what are you trying to convert to what? BTW, have you seen our free Basic Training tutorials for Vegas Movie Studio? They were created for an earlier version of the program, but they should still apply to version 12. Check them out on the left side of this page: http://Muvipix.com/vms11.php

Hi Steve.
Yes, I have seen the basic training videos on Vegas. Well done! What I like about your videos is that you keep it simple, you don't use a jargon that people can't relate to, you express the functionality of the software in layman's terms, so we don't have to think twice to understand what you're talking about.
What do I want to convert? Well all kinds of video format back and forth. I get videos from my daughters in MOV, AVI, MPG ... When I bring all this together into one production, ideally I try to convert them all to one format which seems to expedite the final rendition somehow.
I was using Roxio ECM9 before ... But when I bought my new computer earlier this year, I found out that ECM9 is not compatible with Win 7 64-bit. So I bought Vegas instead and so far, I'm very very pleased with it. After two days of fumbling through help files and manuals, I was able to produce my first video; a simple one mind you, but still. It was made up of some 500 photos slideshow, with transitions, music, and DVD Architect menu. What impressed me the most is the execution time. Once I was ready, the whole execution including burning was over and done with in less than 5 minutes!
Any way, I'm rambling again. It comes with age, you know. So there, something for you to look forward to, RAMBLING!
Take care. Any recommendations for a GOOD, the BEST, video converter would be great.
I searched the forums, and I've seen recommendations for Iwisoft and Arcsoft; and so far, I'm Iwisoft is at the top of the list. I like Arcsoft was well, but it does not show on Microsoft Win 7 compatibility list.
Thanks again for your help and have a nice day.

There really is no one "best" video converter. It really depends on where your video is coming from and what you plan to do with it. For instance, it matters whether you plan to edit your video in standard def, for DVD, or high-def, for BluRay.
As you probably know, Vegas Movie Studio is also very versatile, and can work well with almost any video you throw at it. But, as you also know, you'll get the best performance and the cleanest results if your video is optimized for the project properties you've set up -- so it never hurts to convert to an optimized format before you bring your video into a Vegas project.
That said, as video converters go, Aunsoft's Video Converter is the best I've found for the money. For a mere $35, it converts pretty much anything to anything (at least among consumer video formats). And while there are free converters out there that also do a good job, none do it as well and with less other baggage. I highly recommend it, and others on this forum would no doubt concur.
