I find that I have to randomly log back into the forum also, can't figure out any consistant reason for it.

On rare occasion, if I do something to the database, it may cause re-login issues as well.

No wonder, I ate all of my cookies yesterday when I was hungry. These computer cookies sure don't fill you up though. :tongue8:

No. No check mark.

But if topics with new posts need to have a checkmark, then what's the abridged topic list showing me when I click on "view new posts" after I "READ ALL", close the browser, log in and "VIEW NEW POSTS"? Topics that USED TO have new posts but don't any more?

Man am I not tracking with this...
Dell XPS 8500 desktop w/ Intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.4ghz / 22 gigs RAM / Radeon HD7570 1g dedicated video memory/ PrEl 11 & 9 / Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 / After Effects CS4 / Olympus OM-D E-M5 DSLR (1080i HD video)

I think we need to start over, this new software thing is way too confusing. :-k

Ron's thread: "What do all the Icons/Images mean?" in the Announcements section of the board has helped me.

Agreed! Here's the Basic Question, tho:

I log in. I click on "View new posts." I'm presented with a short list of topics. I choose several and read those posts. I go to "Board index" and click on "Mark all read."

I shut down my browser. I open my browser 1 hour later. Let's assume no one's visited Muvipix in that 1 hour. Shocking, true.

I log in. I click on "View new posts." I'm presented with the SAME EXACT short list of topics I saw an hour earlier.

Basic Question: What is that list showing me? ](*,)

Gerry, Does the list include the ones you did read as well as the ones you didn't read?

Yessir. The exact same list... no more or no fewer topics listed.

Well, I'm sure that you don't see the exact posts as you saw yesterday, correct?

I was mistaken with the 5 second thingy earlier in this thread. The session timeout is approximately 2 hours. In any event, when you select "New Posts" and get the list, they may have been read already, but they are still "New Posts". It's a list comprised of topics since your last visit to the forum (must be > than 2 hours lapsed to update the list). If you just want to be concerned with "New Posts" only when visiting, look for the "New Post" image Image or Image or any icon with an orange color to it.

No, they do change from day to day.

Ah HA! =D> So that would explain everything. Thanks!

That might also explain the duplicates on the RSS feeds into my email client. I keep getting the same ones repeatedly .. but I often re-check within that two hour period. Will pay attention to see if waiting longer helps resolve that issue.

Ron,
I've uploaded a copy of my email client RSS feeds, which shows what time I pulled in the feeds .. and which messages came through each time. I have no interest in beating this to death, and if you don't have the time or interest in pursuing this, that's OK (I'm not looking for perfection, and I have no problem deleting the duplicates) .. but thought I'd provide it as additional info in case you do.
I take in RSS feeds through my email client, Thunderbird. What's interesting is that even at 7:30 this evening (Tucson time), it was still pulling in the early morning messages.
The blue messages I pulled in at 2:30 pm this afternoon (or earlier) .. and all of them were read
The brown messages were pulled in at 4:40 pm this afternoon (some were read, some were not)
The purple messages were pulled in at 7:30 pm this evening.

They're sorted by the time on the original message. I hope your eyes are good.

I can't help but think that it's the fault of the email client. When I subscribe to the feed, both in IE and FF, the output is quite nicely formatted with no duplicates (may be duplicate titles only because of the follow-on responses). Even after clicking over and over again.

I did a quick search on Thunderbird and came across this link -
Duplicate messages

In any event, maybe the structure of this particular feed is not suited for Thunderbird particularly? I'll keep my eyes open for a different way to present it.

-Ron

That's really strange .. I didn't realize there were different types of RSS feeds that could be so different. Again, Ron, it isn't a big deal. It doesn't sound like anyone else is having a problem, and that link you provided may just fix the problem at my end (and suggests it must be a common problem for Thunderbird). Thanks for looking at it again.
