This summer I picked up The Flip minicam and went out to see what I could do with it. I ended up making 8 shorts, which are at
http://smallscreenvideo.org
Best, I created a network of senior actors to create an informal "company" and we're planning our fall projects.
My favs of the summer are SUNSET HEARTS: A DATING SERVICE FOR SENIORS and HONKY TONK.
Needless to say, I learned a ton. No project is perfect, far from it, but many show strengths as well. Nothing like the proverbial "school of hard knocks." I teach screenwriting at Portland State University and now will try to get my students to go out with their cell phones and do the same.

I'm having trouble getting the page to finish loading, Charles -- but I'm definitely looking forward to having a look once it does!

I didn't have any problems just now, hope I get the time to check them out.
When I first saw your post I was curious about a Dating Service for Seniors that was also a Honky Tonk, but I figured it out, they are two separate films

Wow, nice job, Charles, on both "Sunset" and "Honky Tonk." I just watched them both.
It's obvious you've got a lot of talent in screenwriting -- I thought the stories were well told and moved along at a nice pace. But it was the acting that blew me away -- wow, what a great job.
Nice work!!

G, you're right, the acting blew ME away, too ... but it proved my hunch was right. Being an old fart myself, I figured there may be "retired" actors in town just looking for small projects to do. And I was right. Judith Richmond, for example, the woman in the two you watched, was a prof folksinger thru the 60s, then acted in NYC for 15 yrs, then came to Pdx because her kids are here. She is an incredible talent. Like I said, getting a "company" of "retired" actors to work with assures great performances if nothing else. This has been a real blast.

Well, I'm just a newbie at this like many others and learn a hell of a lot more here than I "offer", I think. I admit amazement, however, at the new low end technology and how I can make things that "look like movies" with a camera I can hold in the palm of my hand and a total investment of less than $300. Talk about making the playing field level! Of course, I also am blessed by the wonderful actors I've coaxed out of retirement. Thanks for the kind words and welcome. C.
