That looks like it took some effort. Very nice indeed. What tool(s) did you use?

Very nice Mark! Care to share any technical details on how it was done?

Thanks, I saw some other ones up here and always wanted to make one. The family nickname for my wife and I are Mamarazzi and Paparazzi. I am always the one with camera at family events and gatherings. Some of you may recall I take pictures and video at paintball events as well, my nickname there is also Paparazzi, so it seems fitting to have something with Paparazzi in it. (Also the grand kids call me PaPa.)

So after seeing some of the fancy ones on this board, I always had the idea of doing one in the back of my mind but didn't know what to do.

I have some time waiting for my sisters to get me pictures for my mom's video, so I wanted to make one for that one.

I ran across this tut, and decided I wanted to do one like this
http://library.creativecow.net/articles/mize_rob/Laser-Writer/video-tutorial

I couldn't do the bit at the end where most of it falls away, so I didn't do it. The first ones I made were too slow and when I made it faster, by compressing the AVI, it was just crazy. My daughter (the creative one) came up with the idea of two lasers to speed up the overall time, but not have the lasers go crazy fast.

I ended up doing four because of the timing, I couldn't figure out how to adjust the timing in the middle of the project. I'll still be doing some tweaking on this one. I want a bit more delay before the two "i"s get dotted.

It was fun to try to make, I learned a lot and was able to go off the tut on some concepts. Next its on the animated flourishes - also for my moms video. I'll be following the tut posted in answer to a prior question I had.

I thought it was likely After Effects, but couldn't tell for sure from your original post. It looks like the project is a combination of having the right tool to start with and then having the patience and detail-mindedness to see it through. I'm very impressed with what people are able to do with AE. How many hours total would you estimate that you have in just this project?

Thanks for the kind words

If I knew what I was doing, probably an hour or two. This took me about 6 hours. It took about a week in the evenings with all the trial runs and bad timing versions. I did it by running the tut on one screen and AE on another. I would stop it every few seconds to mimic what he did, then start it again and stop in another few seconds to do the next step. the two lasers and upper glow, flame and smokes took a while to figure out.

My kids are encouraging me to put some sounds to this clip. Any ideas out there? She said film some bacon frying and use the audio...

The frying bacon sounds good, mixed with a little light saber sound effects maybe.
You might want to speed it up a little bit then too, maybe 10 seconds instead of 16.

In the Muvipix complementary section there are sound fx. One is electricity that may work. I didn't see any for sizzling.
