Signature effect

Postby RJ Johnston » Sat May 12, 2007 1:59 pm

The Adobe forum is no fun this morning. Yesterday there was a thread going about how to show a signature being drawn. I got the idea of using SnagIt to record a Photoshop session where I erase a red-colored signature to reveal a duplicate but green-colored signature on a layer below. Then in Premiere Elements I used the Replace Color effect to remove all traces of red, so you see only the green signature being drawn. I also timestreched the video using 1500%. I did not have to reverse playback. After I figured out the strategy, it took about 15 minutes for the whole signature.

When you say "...Photoshop session where I erase a red-colored signature"... how did you actually erase the signature while you were recording it?

While recording, I was using the eraser tool to erase the red signature. I started at the first letter, and I tried to make the same strokes I would normally make when writing, except a lot slower. As I'm erasing the red signature, the green signature shows through from the layer below.

Thanks, reason I asked because I couldn't see the eraser tool in the video. Guess it is there but at the resolution you cant see it.

You can't see it at full resolution either.

Edit: It's just that increasing the speed by 10 times makes the eraser look invisible.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try... any you easy way to create the signature in the first place? I am limited to my mouse and keyboard.

It looks great, Robert. Only 15 minutes. That is good too.
