New Video of My Band

Postby rustysterling » Sun Apr 08, 2007 8:28 pm

I took some photos from over the last 3 years and di a sorta slideshow. The music is the band recorded live at a festival. That's me singing. I just don't have a thumbnail uploaded yet. I can't remember Ron's email addy. ;'D Let me know what you think. I already have some ideas of things I'd change or do differently. BTW. this was my first shot at keyframing. I actually found it less daunting that I believed it would be. Thanks.

That's nice. You have a good voice for that music genre.

Yeah, I agree about my voice for the genre. As far as the video, I was just seeing what I could do with key-framing. It was my first crack at key-framing and now it seems pretty easy to me. But I've watched some other people's work and mine must look pretty lame. LOL.

I don't think so. One thing I might have done differently is to pan some of the photos, rather then have them move across the screen. I just think it looks better, but that's just a preference.

Ed, I agree. Like I said it was done as an experiment/tutorial (and In A Snap was invaluable). I thought about using a background but in the end I felt that black/no background was best for what it was. The real challenge was the ending sequence and I had to build six video tracks to do it. But it was fun and killed the weekend. LOL. I learned a lot from the experience and will apply it to later more serious project. But I am thinking that such a video could be great for pitching to clubs, etc., as part of the band package. I'm also thinking of pitching other bands to create DVD demos and up the ante a bit for their packages.

Rusty, That is a great start and you are really catching on to Keyframing fast ! I am glad to hear that the book has been helpful. Be sure to check out the tutorials also if you haven't yet.

The idea about creating band demo DVDs is a great idea. You could go to a show and film the band, get some publicity photos of them and put together a good video for them to use in promoting themselves, fabulous idea

Chuck: That's just what I had in mind. I'm also a pretty decent photographer. So I could capture both at one show and create the demo.

Something that would really put it over the top (for your video also), is to get audience comments and some good shots of people dancing and having fun. Comments like 'I always come here when ... is playing', 'I never miss one of their shows', or 'These guys are great, we always have a great time when they play here' really make a big impression. Maybe some club owners comments would be helpful also, you only need to use the good stuff :)

Or, I could just send you multiple photos of me drinking Red Stripes at the bar in The Iota; where I like to go to see/hear music. That would save you time taking crowd photos!

Chuck: I agree totally. It would give that little something extra.

Ed: Somehow I now can't get that picture out of my head! ;'D

Thanks Cheryl. When the band first started it was primarily a blues band. Now we do more classic R&B and Motown which really gets crowds movin' and shakin'. It's fun but I don't plan to quit my dayjob. Here's a link to our website:

Great song list, Rusty. I see you have some BB King on there and haven't heard wooly bully in a long time. Our daughter is getting married in 2008 and the band they are getting have some of the same songs. We have heard them many times, but are a little short on the blues type music, but still very good.

Like I said, we were primarily a blues band. Now we're a little short on blues. In fact, I sing most of the blues we play and the girls sing most of the R&B and Motown. I feature them a lot in the shows. Like I said the tunes really get audiences on the dance floor. I love the blues but I have seen what gets audiences excited. Hope your daughters wedding is successful and fun.
