Yes, we were allowed in all the buildings 40 years ago. To bad you were not able to see the insides. I did climb Chichen Itza. I have a fear of heights but I did it anyway. Coming down is the hard part. Those steps are only 4 inches or so wide so you have to step sideways or you fall. The Mayans must have had little feet.

Wow, you climbed the pyramid? I hear it is difficult on the way down. The Mayans were short in stature with thick dense bones and large heads. I've been told this is due to the cenote water containing 10x the calcium as regular drinking water. They had kidney issues due to the over calcium. The high priests and other officials were the only ones allowed to climb the pyramids. The steps are small and the doorways low due to the Mayan's size.

This happened in January. A celeb disrespected the Tulum site:
