My chase scene

Postby Steve Grisetti » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:31 pm

Back when I was a teenager, I bought a Super 8 movie camera and shot a bunch of really stupid action movies with my friends. It was loads of fun at the time -- but you really had to be there to appreciate them.

But sometimes, just for fun, I play around with the old footage and see if I can make something of it. Believe me, it's a heck of a lot easier to work in a video editor than it is to cut 8mm movies and mix audio from a bunch of cassettes.

Anyway, here's a remix I did of the climactic car chase from our last movie (in all its faded, scratchy glory). We could never have dreamed it could look like this!

Looks like you had great fun!

One thing that I notice in (all?) cinema car chases is that the driver(s) take their eyes off the road to check either their persuer or their passenger. I am always amazed that such action, bearing in mind the speeds that they are allegedly travelling, doesn't end in disaster. :ha:

The really great part about this is how much better this is due to it being old footage. This wouldn't have worked nearly as well if it had been in modern hi def with great color. Looks like a scene out of Bullitt! :TU:

Awesome stuff Steve, wish I had friends that wanted to make movies back in the 70's. We were always too busy chasing girls :) Love the cars and the old video, scratches and all (on both the cars and the video). How did you not get stopped by the police?

Holy Cr*p!!! Looked like the car lifted off of the suspension during one curve! Who knew Steve was such a bad boy back in the day. Great filming and edit. I think you were born to film ::CLAP: Glad you survived your teen years to teach us editing.

Absolutely loved it. The audio made the video.

In the side shots inside the car you kind of looked like a young Tom Cruise. Was that a 67 LeMans? I had one of those once upon a time.

Here is the sound bed... lol :)

I believe it was a '66 GTO vs. a '71 Javelin.

It was hard to keep track because our cars kept breaking down during the shoot (one car even blew a rod!) so we had to constantly shoot around car changes.
