Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia SC

Postby Ron Hunter » Mon Dec 14, 2015 9:35 am

I recently took my kids to Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia SC. It is a great zoo where you can get a close-up look at many different animals. And unlike the NC Zoo, you don't have to walk miles and miles to see something. If you are ever in the Columbia area it is worth a visit.

Here are some of the things I learned while making this video:
- just because you think an area of the frame is in focus, that doesn't mean that it is!
- a 70-200mm zoom lens is useable for video but you must use a monopod/tripod! I presumed that having IS in the lens and stabilization in post would save the footage. I was wrong for most of those clips. A monopod would have been the ticket!
- the Pilotfly H1+ stabilizer was more useful than I anticipated. Using it to capture "walking shots" was great. I will try to incorporate it into more videos moving forward.

And I LOVE the music from Kevin MacLeod on this video. It is called "The Show Must Be Go" and it is comical.

We had a lot of fun at the zoo and I hope the video captures some of that. Feedback appreciated!

Very enjoyable video Ron. I used to go to the San Diego Zoo a lot and your video made me want to go again. Your camera seems to do a great job in low light conditions, the indoor footage looks really sharp and no film noise at all. You did an excellent job filming and editing and I think the music is perfect too. Thanks for sharing.

A fun memento of your trip, and you're right about the music! I liked the pace of the edit. Got a good feel for the zoo. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the insights of your learning experience. ::CLAP:

Nice video Ron.

The walking scenes were nice and smooth. I see your point regarding the monopod. pretty slight, but only noticeable when compared to the walking footage. Some of those shots would make nice jpeg images. I thought the music was a good fit too. Good job.

The music was a perfect fit. Great job Ron! The walking shots were smooth. The kangaroo at the end scratching his back was funny. :TU:
