Magic Bullet Looks.

Postby Gerlinde » Wed Nov 16, 2011 1:02 am

I have this clip I think is really funny. Unfortunately it is very short and it looked kind of blah... I saw this post regarding Magic Bullet Looks and that got me started.
I have the plugin with Avid Studio, so that is what I used to edit.

Here is the "before"....

and the "after"....

Sorry, I could not get the high resolution version to play here. :(

It really lifts the video and portrays the fun of the moment. I've read about colour grading but never put it into practice.

P.S. Also edited the tags to use larger video. For 640x480 mwv use
Code: Select all

Are there any widescreen resolutions available Ron?

Most of the players will scale the video appropriately. We could easily have specific widescreen resolution options, but it's so variable (both resolutions and/or display ratios), I don't think it would be feasible. Also, as you probably know by now, we have quite a number of embed options (most you can't see buttons for) and even if we added the options visibly, it would not only over crowd the Reply window, but it would be even more confusing for some.

If you happen to need a specific video display for your works, I'll certainly honor special requests, no problem :)

The MB Quick Looks really adds an element to the video. Makes it a fun piece. :) Thanks for sharing. I use MBQL on almost all of my video projects now. If a natural look is desired then I tone the intensity down to about 60% to maybe 80%. This gives a natural depth. My favorites are Warm Stock, AG Film Stock, & Warm Stock Focus. I usually get one clip how I like it and then copy & paste to other similar clips. On the Ozarks Woods video I accidentally pasted 2x to one section and ended up keeping it. That project had the intensity at 100%.

Before I got MBQL I spent a lot of time researching color grading tuts and trying out techniques. It is an art and I couldn't get the hang of it.

In your video the little brother looked he didn't know what to make of the girls.

Thank you all for your comments :-D and thank you Chris, for making the player window bigger :TU:

I usually refrain from using too many transitions or other special effects, but once in a while I like to go crazy. I think it works in this case. I wanted it to look like a punk music video.

Mom, I agree with you, it makes such a difference to apply some mood lighting to the videos. Sometimes all it takes is a little more saturation or a slide shift of the color range. Magic Bullet Looks is a bonus to have, but all the video editors have some kind of color tool. It is just a matter of remembering to use it :-

The little brother likes to "shake it" too ( that's the magic word he associates with dancing), but if he has a choice of riding with his dad on the quad, the quad is winning. He named it the "go, go". He was mostly annoyed, that the "go, go" did not actually go :-D
